Safari interface issues

While I like the sparse and uncluttered look of Safari, there are a few minor interface problems.

There needs to be more visual feedback when loading a page. The address bar turns blue but when it stops halfway, I'm not sure if it's just still loading or it can't find the page.

The address bar needs to provide smaller and not so bold text

One needs to be able to see bookmarks simply with a drop down menu without having to go to a dedicated page.

Actually, you can make your bookmarks show up in the drop down menu. Click on the bookmarks tab and you'll see a folder called Bookmarks Menu....anything you add to there will show up in the Bookmarks drop down menu.

Seems to act just like any other progress indicator to me. I find this "jerky" progress bar behavior to be typical in any browser.

In the preferences you can turn on the status bar like in Chimera and *cough* IE. I know how you feel, I can't stand a browser without some feedback about its status. Now only if i could import my Chimera bookmarks?

I have no folder called Bookmarks Menu. I have

    1) Show all bookmarks

    2) Add bookmark

    3)Add bookmark folder

    4)Bookmarks bar

It has been annoying me also that I can't have a pulldown menu of my bookmarks.

Just put everything in the regular Bookmars folder in a new folder in the Bookmarks Bar folder. All bookmarks will then be accesible from the Bookmarks Bar.

I have no idea why Apple didn't integrate the status bar into the progress/address bar at the top like OmniWeb does. I find it less functional not to know the address of a link that my mouse is over.

Just in case you aren't aware, a click and drag usually does the trick, you sometimes don't get the whole url though.

When you actually select Add Bookmark... is one of the options not Bookmarks Menu?

This is a beta. Instead of complaining why not send your ideas to Apple. They have provided the means to do it. Click on the bug.

    That's extraneous IMO.

You have to create a folder with links inside of it for a pop-down menu in the bookmarks bar. It can be hierarchial though. I really like the idea a lot. Also, you've got the Bookmarks menu.

Here's an example of what I'm referring to, though, by a drop-down menu in the bookmark bar:

    how so?

Because it's not consistent with having a simple, easy to use, efficient interface. What's better, "clicking+dragging" or just rolling your mouse over a link?

    There's some confusion around here:

For the status bar, press command-\\ or use the View menu

To put links in the Boomarks menu, click on the bookmark library button in the bookmarks bar, or click option-command-b. In the lefthand list of folders, just under the Bookmarks bar at the top, there is the Bookmarks menu folder, special icon and all. Place links or folders of links in there. To copy folders or links to that menu, it still needs work. Right now, you can option- or command-drag a folder to copy it within the left pane of the bookmarks library, but you can't option-or command-drag it into another folder or to the righthand pane. Anyhoo, thats how you put stuff in the Bookmarks menu.

No I don't have that option and to respond to a previous suggestion I know I can put all my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar but I don't want to do it that way.

Why assume I haven't reported this bug? I have done, I am just sharing my experience in this post. Is that ok?

I did this at an earlier time but then got rid of this setup because I realised I would always have to duplicate each bookmark because I would be storing two sets of bookmarks in two different locations

Actually a bigger UI problem with Safari is that it's next to impossible to tell the difference between when the application is active in the foreground and when it's deslected in the background. The only differences are few easy to miss color changes. Please!

I've been using the pie menu implementation on Phoenix for Windows which relies on a right-press and drag. It's really quite cool if you give it a try.

    <a href="http://www.gamemakers.de/mozilla/radialcontext/"; target="_blank">http://www.gamemakers.de/mozilla/radialcontext/;

Beware that by default you can use right-click and then another click to activate rather than the much better option of holding down the button and having the action fire when you release.

As for the link, I like the fact that you don't have to move your eyes away from the link and back again and the motion has easily become second nature.

As a bonus you don't have random info popping up at the bottom of the screen as you mouse around and you save a couple of pixels of vital vertical space.

Question: is anyone aware of pie menus for OS X? I remember a cocoa mouse gestures release and the two are conceptually similar.

edit: I just realized that they should work in Mozilla on OS X, I'll try that later but would much prefer a cocoa wide implementation.
