sorry, some of us haven't been keeping current with that thread, and the title says it all here. i should have put it in Digital Hub, which i realized after the fact. Another mod is welcome to come along and axe this thread.
Dag, it's SLOW! I started my iPhoto Download over 40 minutes ago...and it's not even an eighth done! This is on a school broadband network that usually gets 50-100 kB/sec!
iMovie 3 is sloooooooooooooow on my PowerMac G4 400MHz with 512Mb. iMovie 2 was much faster in my opinion. Oh well, guess that's the price I pay for all the GREAT new features! Overall, I'm happy about the update. Just wish I had a faster Mac.
Curious. I just got through polking around iMovie3 (very nice interface BTW), and my project file icon looks like it was created in OS9! Big, blocky chunky-assed thing. Weird. Nice updates all-in-all, very nice.
Well iPhoto is noticeably faster on my iMac G3 so people with newer macs should really see a difference. one click enhance so freakin awesome. The retouch brush is a bit dodgy but still is quite nicer than having to photoshop to touch up photos. And..red eye reduction finally works. I don't know how much they changed the last feature but it didn't work at all in iPhoto 1. Time to try iMovie.
Wow. Big downloads. My cable modem won't break a sweat, but it does sway my skepticism from when people were saying that the free downloads were a last-minute decision. I can't imagine trying this on dial-up. The download of iMovie must take at about five hours for dial-up users.

iMovie just improved my slideshows a whole lot. There are a lot more titles, and effects, and about the same number of transitions. They work just as well as before, though obviously I haven't tested most of them.
The font selection in the Title pane for whatever reason is a bit buggy. I see there's a redraw bug in the Audio pop-up too, so it looks like it's a general bug in pop-up buttons.
The volume and transition curves are tré cool. I'm going to delve into controlling the audio's volume and length a bit more. And the built-in sound effects are very nice, not nearly as cheesy as the older ones.
The touch up tools and enhance tool are both rather good. Some shots of my nephew didn't fare as well with the enhance tool since they were taken too close to him. His face gets a bit washed out from the flash and the background gets even darker. So it doesn't do flash fill or background corrections, just overall levels and stuff. But the retouch tool did a nice job removing a scar on his chin in one photo. What's nice about the touch-up tools is that it's basically building up a healing texture as you scrub the image. So if you're careful and slow, it will respond in kind, and you use it vigorously, it picks up the correction much quicker.
It does a very good job with color correction/white balance, saturates the colors as best as possible, and it adjusts the histogram to pull out as much detail as possible. A lot of marginal architectural shots in my library were improved.
The speed is better, but I only have a few hundred images, not thousands. iPhoto has very nice context menus, especially when control-clicking on a picture in the Organize view's "light table." It's a nice touch to set slideshow music per album too.
