I have an iMac 233.

I have the Windows Media Player software for Mac version 7, on my computer but it dosn't work well. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

The audio plays fine but the video dosn't.

The video is a couple of pics, no movement.

Is there a fix for this?

Windows Media Player for the Mac is intentionally crippled by Microsoft. Even on my iBook 800, it chokes up if you do anything other than just sit there and patiently watch the movie. Any other processor usage will cause it to choke and I have to wait about 5-10 seconds for the picture to come back. The audio still plays.

I think it would be slow on any machine, even a dual 1.42 GHz G4. Your old iMac probably doesn't like it .

Funny how now Microsoft seems to be pushing users of older Macs to new computers... I suppose they want people to say "WMP for Windows is so much better!" and then buy a Windows machine. I think Apple does that with QuickTime for Windows, though I don't think it's quite as bad.

I downloaded Window's MediaPlayer...it only will play their streaming content right?

I tried opening .avi and even .mp3s with no results (didn't have the proper codec).

So it's pretty much crap? I have enough problems with the Windows version too.

i had to download it as well the other night and i haven't had any problems with it other that the quality is inferior to quicktime or realplayer. (i was on a 450mgz imac)

the problem i had was with the installer wizard it asked me what disc i wanted it installed in.

i said my firewire hd and then it installed it on the internal anyway.

i assume it's because that's where the applications folder is.

anyway it put it there without any kind of dialog box saying that it wasn't going where i'd chosen it to go.

    i just had to laugh.

Well it seems Windows Media Player works fine on my G4 Power book in OS X.

Maybe my iMac is too slow or it doesn't work well with Mac OS 9.2?

    Why can't everybody use Quicktime

    BTW:Thanks for the posts

    peace

WMP sucks A$$ on my iBook. It is unbelievable how resource intensive it is and runs super chunky.

Personally, I just avoid asf, etc...

Try the open-source VLC 0.5 or MPlayer 1.1 for playback.

Problems with WMP aren't really unique to the mac. It's really pretty bad on the PC too. The only thing that really annoys me is certain codecs are recognised by the PC version but not by the Mac version.

What really annoys me is that streaming content for Windows Media Player doesn't seem to work at all and an awful lot of webcams seem to use the windows media player format. Is there any other application that will stream windows media content or do we have to wait for Microsoft to update the player?
