Why is M$ Word so slow?

I swear, it takes 10 seconds sometimes to save a document, (though sometmes it is instantaneous), and I have to turn off all the auto correct as you type "features" becasue it is just to distarcting to be typing away and every time I make the FIrst TWo LEtters in caps by accident it takes it seemingly forever to correct it. Same thing with symbols, like converting two dashes into one, etc. Now this are nice little features, but come on...I when I was on my iBook I htought the problem was with the iBook, but is actually seems worse on my TiBook. This is one piece of bloatware I wish I could do without...

MS Word works perfectly fine on my iBook. Try reinstalling the program and install the updates.

turn off feedback w/sound. see if that helps.

also, you can read through <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=002727"; target="_blank">this thread to see a pile of other suggestions. not sure if the feedback w/sound was the problem, but there weren't any more posts on the subject after that.

DOH! I feel like a jackass. Sorry I didn't do a search before posting this...I was just fed up with it and needed to vent. I'll be sure to search next time and make sure there isn't a recent topic already going on the same thing.

Thanks for the linkage though...I turned off the sounds, hope that helps.

As I posted in that thread, I think you're right. I turned off the feedback thing and it seems to have speeded it up immensely. I was actually so used to Word being slow, I'm still pleasantly surprised when it's not. That's called setting your sights low boys and girls. Hey, if it makes me happy....

Well this solution has worked wonders for me, but it got me thinking...is this really a problem with Word or with the Mac? I think I read the machine will turn off the sound after a little while of inactivity and has to fire it up when a sound is needed, and that takes a few seconds. Like hitting the volume button on your laptop; it takes a while for the little sound icon to show up in the middle of the screen. Of course I'd rather blame M$...
