Camino 0.7.0 is here!

What's new in this version:

* New Download Manager, with auto-download and auto-dispatch.

* Compatible with URL Manager Pro

* Page Text Encodings menu

* Global History in the sidebar

* Send Link menu item, and other new toolbar buttons

* Dragging of images and links to the desktop, and other applications

* Support for Shockwave Directory content

* Uses Rendezvous to show local FTP and web servers

* Supports Proxy Auto-config

Just been using it for about 10 mins, it still beats the pants of safari, and is more stable too. It feels way quicker than the previous nightly I was using.

I want them to add the ability to automatically delete finished downloads from the download manager. Way too much stuff accumulates in there, I want to keep it clean without having to purge it every day.

I'd also be interested to know the difference between the last few builds of Chimera 0.6 and this version... I'll check the project page for that.

Also... anyone notice that now the browser's name is also Camino? No more Navigator.

Still says 'Welcome to Navigator' as the window title on launch.

    Still has major rendering problems.

People are easily impressed. I'm not.

Kim Kap Sol, you'd better get back to the plastics--it says only "camino" on the splash screen, no "welcome to navigator".

oh, you said camino .70, not '70 el camino.

    my mistake.

first impression: v64 safari sodomizes it with a chainsaw.

Wake me up when Safari has the ability to bookmark groups of tabs...which will hopefully be soon.

Excellent. Why don't the Chimera/Camino people just help out Safari? Chimera is obviously dead. I wish Apple would open source ALL of Safari, not just the backend. That way even if they don't port it to Windows (which they SHOULD!) someone else could.

Is it compatible with anything besides IE? This is really a joke. THIS is why the government needs to split up Monopolysoft, I mean Microsoft.

Thanks, applenut...just saw that. I am living large!

kim kap sol...hmmm. Well, I get "untitled" when I open a window...and even the Camino page doesn't display the behavior you describe. No big deal.

    The rest I'll ignore.

Chimera by name is dead, but the project is nowhere near being dead. just because apple came out with safari dosent mean that there can be no other browsers out there to compete with it.

I still like Camino more. Mainly because of the keychain.

Camino is just the code name. The actual name for the program is Navigator. It should say Navigator everywhere. Wherever you see Camino outside the developer realm is a bug.

    Barto

EDIT: My bad. I've just downloaded it. I don't know WTF they're thinking changing the name to something as crap as "Camino".

Hot Chick: "What web browser do you use?"

    Me: "Camino"

Hot Chick: "I'm sorry, I thought you were hetro"

Rrrright. What Banjo Billy said. Also, good luck trying to port a Cocoa app to anything non-Mac OS X (besides the never-finished GNUStep). It's Objective-C, damnit!

Chimera, now Camino 0.7, continues to be King on my OS X system. It'll also remain my default browser. I like it infinitely better than Safari. I'll also never get used to the silly brushed metal look in any application other than QuickTime.

Camino 0.7 is quick, stable and standards-compliant. It will get even better when the developers incorporate the code from the Mozilla 1.3 trunk. In my book, there's simply no contest. Camino wins, and will continue to win, over all other OS X browsers.

Chimera is dead. Long live Camino!

I like how Camino is dock-aware and Safari isn't. Actually, Safari is somewhat dock-aware - you can't resize it to go under the dock, but when you click the zoom box, it will still move the window to be under my dock. You might think it works fine - but my dock is on the left side of the screen, not the bottom like most people. Safari will resize the window to fit perfectly assuming the dock is on the bottom. It can tell the size of the dock, but it doesn't know where it is. Apple must really want you to leave it on the bottom <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />
