Bought new wireless router and SSID is not detected by my MBP.

I recently purchased a Linksys WRT160N wireless router and am now having problems finding my home network with my mac. I configured the router using a PC. There are only 2 computers sharing this connection, the PC and my mac. The PC can connect fine through an Ethernet cable. My mac also has no problem connecting through a cable. Airport cannot detect that my newly established network even exists. When I type in the SSID and the appropriate passphrase the network is still no where to be found. I use a DSL connection. I hope this is enough information to diagnose my problem. I even made sure that the SSID was being broadcast by the router. Any help would be much appreciated.

-Try the router without WEP encryption to see if that could be the problem.

-Maybe you have 'MAC addres filtering' on and didn't authorize the mac on the router. to know your MAC adders or airport ID: (check preferences>network>airport>Airport ID=MAC addres (it looks like this--> (00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx) )

-There's a security switch on my linksys router, maybe that's the cause...

-Reset the router and configure with your mac

Personally I only use MAC addres filtering which cancels out the need for WEP encryption since the router only accepts these unique MAC addresses. (If I'm wrong someone please correct me!)

Last week I noticed connection issues with my MBP and the linksys and I just don't know why. I recently installed 10.4.11 but that's like 2 months ago, only this week the symptoms started. I reconfigured the router, set up MAC addres filtering, set the router to only use the G standard since I don't have an N standard capable computer. If I go really near the router (within 3 meters) I get a full signal, it doesn't matter if I turn 'interference robustness' on or off. Sometimes it works like it was before, but the signal meter is jumping like a trampoline.

It seems a lot of other members had issues with airport and MBP and other mac's.

It's a pretty old thread, I didn't want to start a new one, but I'll have to start a new one if these problems aren't adressed because it is driving me nuts, it always worked and now without any known reasons it's staring to go nuts.

I'm really eager to know what the hell is going on and if someone else had succes with solving this problem.

It can't be the weather right? Last week it got hotter here but not excessive. (25°C)

I recently noticed a new wireless network in my area, could this be causing interference?

I usually can 'see' 5 networks, and now most of the time I can harldy log onto my own wireless network. Which made me think something was wrong with my MBP. (loose antenna)

Just read my post on the other thread, I'm just repeating myself here and that's a waste of time.

Hope to get some answers.

By the way I have a WRT150N, I'm gonna test another router of a friend of mine tomorrow.

TIP: When configuring the MAC addres filtering, U see 2 checkboxes which both say 'undefined'

U have to select the second checkbox which means U 'approve' those airport ID's in the list.

The first checkbox will deny all access to/from the airport ID's in the list.

That'll save U time because if U only have one computer and checked the first checkbox, U can't log on to the network to configure. U can configure it by an ethernet cable though, but I didn't know that at first so it took some time to understand what was going on.

So:

O Deny access

O Approve access

Also U can click on a knob 'wireless client list' to add the airport ID to the list, after that, the first checkbox will be checked even though if U checked the second one before selecting the 'wireless client list' knob.

Tested with a Belkin router, It works a bit better but not as before. (I used the Belkin but needed more range and sold it to a friend of mine)

Strange thing is my neighbour is getting the same symptoms and he has his own internet connection and wireless router, using windows.

What could be causing this?

More magnetism in the air?

Radiation?

I am going to give your advice a try tonight. The linksys instructions manual is poorly written. I consider myself to be fairly computer savvy but I have only had problems with linksys products. Thank you very much for your help.

No prob.

It seems I have a full working connection again.

What I did?

I disconnected the gear installed by my service provider, replugged it in and now it works like before...

Full signal all the time, I just don't get why that gear would interfere with the wireless connection...

But whatever, if it works i'm happy.

I am still having problems with setting up mr home wireless network. As I said before the desktop PC is connected to the internet through the router...... so the router is working properly. My mac can use the router but only through a wired connection. My home network is still not visible to my mac. I set up the router so it will accept my mac's MAC address. The router claims that it is producing a wireless signal becuase the wireless symbol on the front of it is lit up. I am going to reinstall LELA and start over. I had no idea that installing this linksys product was going to be so difficult.

I just got the router operating properly. I have come to the conclusion that LELA/Linksys software is trash but their Hardware is decent. The router is very fast and is looks pretty cool. Thanks for your time and your help.
