OS X window problem
Everytime I restart to OS 10 and I open my Mac OS X hard disk it's ALWAYS shown in list view! And I always want it to be in Column view! This is getting on my nerves because in os 10.1 it used to be just fine. After upgrading to 10.1.1 it began to do it. Yes I did check the box in the Finder---> Preferences window. Any ideas? Please help!

- close all Finder windows.
- double-click your hard drive
- View -> As Columns
- close the window
- open the window
Voila! You see, for windows to "remember" what to do, you often have to immediately close them after making the change. If you start going through your disk, it will often forget you made those changes. Weird, but true.

That didn't work. It's like broken, can I like delete the finder prefs or something?
Hmmm... try deleting the .DS_Store file (sudo rm /.DS_Store). That's where window data is stored.

Nuttin' works I'm going to reinstall my system tomorrow, hopefully this will fix everything. Thanx though!

For it to save the settings on my machine, I have to change the window size. So open your have drive, change it to column view, resize to a comfortable size and then close the window. The next time you open it up it should be in column view.
I have mine set up as column view with expanded column width and a custom toolbar with enough space for the folders that I access most frequently.
