Nice to see you all again folks It's been a while!

Just ordered both OsX and Office. Have been quite busy of late on other fronts so haven't really had time or money untill now. My last experience with OsX was with the later builds of the PB so there's something to look forward to I hope.

Anywais, nice to have the boards up and running again.

[EDIT]Sorry, This probably belongs to the OsX forum. Thought I was there actually. Sorry [/EDIT]

Cheers

kelib

I hope you did your research before purchasing Office v.X. It's, IMO, not or par with other new OS X apps. I've found Office 2001 in Classic a much faster and more pleasant experience.

BTW, what are the specs on your Mac?

    yeah kelib.

I am with StarfleeX.....to break your bubble

Office 2001 does indeed runs very well under Classic.

I tried the beta 12 of Office X (will expire on Dec 1). No new feature, only the carbonization. Just doesn't make sense for me to spend 300 bucks (in CDN) to upgrade a "word processor". I never use Excel, entourage or powerpoint....

Appleworks 6.2 is more than enough for me to type basic document (this is what I do with the extremely overpriced WORD)

As a graphic guy I should use that money to upgrade my FCP and Photoshop, or maybe AfterEffects.....

    Got'em yesterday

Works better than I expected actually. My only disappointment is that the Office package did NOT include OsX version of MediaPlayer as someone had stated it would. Then the DVD player does not work. Probably because I had previously hacked my drive to be non RegionCode dependent.

Internet Explorer is fine too but I was disapointed by poor OmniWeb performance. Will give iCab my next try. Overall I'm very satisfied with what I got. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I am also planning to get the Office v.X off my university bookstore too. How many hard disk space will it take? I'm current a Office 2001 and AppleWorks 6.x user.

How much hd space is required? Depending on what you want to install

Basic Office component - Including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Entourage, and those share libraries - 191MB

If you install EVERYTHING - Above plus those 'junks' from the Value pack - Over 300MB!

Thank Leonis. I'll order it via AppleStore Edu right away, since my school haven't yet received the product and AppleStore is cheaper.

I think MacBU did a superb job with Office X - a great suite of apps. Pretty snappy too on my Tibook 500.

It's wonderful, and fast, and easy on the eyes. I just dislike the broadcasting-from-random-port-so-you-can't-use-it-on-more-than-one-computer "feature."

    I second that dislike.

Judging from Word Testdrive, it's going to be great. The slow interface seems to be OS X's fault. As for the other apps, Academic Superstore, where I ordered my copy from, has yet to receive stock from MS. In my desperation, I've tried out Carracho. But all that "upload before you download" crap doesn't make it easy to get your hands on a download of Office v.X. I guess I'll be waiting longer.

Yeah, M$'s protection scheme on Office X is bs. However, you can find a patch for Office X at Carracho that disables this annoying feature.
