Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for Laptop bags/sleeves/etc. that they like or have heard good things about. I'm getting a MBP soon and wanted to keep it safe.

I know there are 1,000s to choose from but wanted something decent without spending a fortune. The vaja cases look awesome but are out of my price range. Anyone have any thouhts?

Thanks for any info!

...sorry I spelled bags wrong in title...

Anything from Brenthaven or Marware should suit you wonderfully.

I recently got one of these. So far I like it a lot. A lot of padding, some space for papers and accessories, but not huge. Seems pretty well made.

Timbuk2 makes great bags for mac's... My MBP fits perfectly in the bag I got from Timbuk2, seems like they made the bag just for this laptop...

they have a great feature where you can build your own bag (15" mbp fits the medium laptop messenger) http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/bagbuilder

There's basically two levels of protection available.

Simple cover protects from bumps, chaffs, dirt and moisture. I use a Tucano Second Skin sleeve inside whatever bag I'm using at the moment. I feel this level is definitely sufficient if your bag of choice is a backpack. One of these served me for the entire life of my last laptop without noticeable wear, so it was a no brainer to get another when switching laptops.

A suspension setup also protects the laptop against hard downward drops. It's normally built in only in more expensive bags. A Tom Bihn Brain Cell sleeve would be a decent way to get this functionality to any bag. Note that the drop protection is one way only, so you need to know if you are going to be carrying the sleeve in a vertical or horizontal position.

I don't recommend Brenthaven. I had a backpack from them specifically for 15" PB and while well made and had the suspension system (which I now consider overkill for a backpack), I thought it was overpriced. Visually it was a big black blob, stuck out far from the back, looked huge despite the lack of color, and the internal space was divided so much that it wasn't versatile and was actually small in use compared to my earlier simpler, externally smaller backpack.

I have this one, as well. It's a great bag - I'd highly recommend it. I paid less than retail, so look around and see if you can find one on sale at an outdoor retailer near you. I bought mine and Kirkham's. It works great, and has lots of padding. It's waterproof too, in case you're ever stuck in the rain or snow.

I also have a neoprene "InCase" case (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nplm=TJ883LL/A) as well as a Speck plastic case (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...nplm=TL657ZM/A). I'm not willing to destroy a $2000+ notebook, so I invested quite a bit in cases and protection for it.

I've had a Waterfield Designs neoprene/nylon sleevecase for my Powerbook G4 for 5 years now and it's good as new. I recently received a new one (15-2 size) for my new, not-yet-shipped Macbook Pro.

I love it for 3 main reasons:

    1) It fits in the water compartment of my backpack (you know the ones for Camelbacks) which lets the backpack provide even more structure for the computer so it doesn't get damaged.

    2) With the optional flap, it prevents rain from getting into the laptop in suboptimal weather.

    3) I sit the computer on top of the case all the time, and the ballistic nylon doesn't conduct/retain heat. It keeps the laptop from getting scratched, prevents spills from damaging the computer, and keeps the case handy all the time.

I haven't tried their cargo cases, since I use my backpack only. I also have a Waterfield Designs wallet and a gear case. They're a great company to work for. Ask a question, and you'll likely get an e-mail response from Gary, the President. He may even call you.

I got the Vertigo Combo yesterday for my Mackbook Air.

First, shipping to Canada was faster than I expected.

    Support was personal and fantastic

    Quality and craftsmanship are superb

    It looks great too!

I like being able to just use the Sleeve if all I want to take is the MBA and some papers. If I want to take the Magsafe Adaptor and some other stuff, them I just put the sleeve in the Vertigo and off I go.

    Highly recommended

I second the recommendation of the Waterfield sleeves. Really protect your computer, customer service could not be better, quick shipment, etc. You can customize to your liking and the prices are great. I would not buy anything else!

I have this one, as well. Fits my Macbook Air perfectly and it's a very nice bag overall. I found one on eBay for 80 US Dollars. What a deal. I recommend this bag.
