Swapping iPhones white for black

My friend has a black 16gb iphone and i have a white 16gb. He really wants the white color so he offered to swap the phone with me. Is it possible to just switch sim cards and restore from our previous iphone backups, or do we have to reactivate the phones through att and re-register them?



has anyone done this? if so what are your experiences.

    I asked about it. The Apple rep said it would work, but be aware that the carrier would still have your IMEI numbers the wrong way round. That way, if your phone was stolen, it would be your friend's phone that got blocked from accessing the network. Apparently it's possible to contact your carrier and let them know, so they change the numbers around.
