Any word on new iMacs?

I need to buy a new iMac for my son for school. Before I do, has anyone heard of any new updates or better yet, any closeouts of old models? Looking for a 24" system. Thanks!

No, I'd just go and buy it now. New ones are some time away I'd bet. Likely March 2009 or something like that.

It will probably be the last of Apple's current models to get updated. If you want good deals on older (and current) models, check out Apple's refurb store.

The iMacs got a speedbump in April, which probably means they won't get another update for at least a few months.

Is there much difference between the previous generation iMacs (2.4 GHZ) and the new (2.8 GHz) version, other than processor speed?

The newest iMac's are only a speed-bump from the previous ones (the original aluminum macs). I would not expect any changes in the iMac line until January (when I highly expect a change). But predicting what Apple is going to do often difficult.
