I've read where you can creat a seperate swap partion which increases performance.

Swapping your swap to another partition on the same drive won't make much difference; it's still accessing the same drive. Moving it to a different drive, however...
My 2 cents worth.
Use generic folder icons whereever possible, this speeds up contexual menus in the dock nicely when scanning a drive.
I got Duality and got a Aqua theme that had opaque menus and windows so there were no transparencies. Now the menus are just as fast as in 9.
I too was really surprised at the difference it made getting rid of transparency with a theme installed through Duality.

reconfigure the machOS kernal.
Disable font smoothing via a program called "Tinkertool". Font smoothing takes out the "snap" from Mac OS 9. It does this greatly to Mac OS X too. You have to first REPLACE the Arial and Times New Roman fonts in Mac OS X with the updated versions from Microsoft.com.
WTF!!!
