This is why there is no Scanner software for X yet

So I finally get a real letter back from customer support at one of the bigger scanner makers (Canon) instead of a generic "thank you for your interest in our company... bla bla bla".

In essence: they are all waiting for Adobe Photoshop 7 to ship and be final. Why? Because almost all makers of scanners make sure that their plug-in is PS compatible... and then use that plug-in architecture/info to use in their own software.

So, essentially, its Adobes fault.

Wonderful... we have to wait on THEM. Yeesh.

    Ever heard of VueScan?

But, yeah, I guess the truth hurts. At least you got an honest response. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Yes I have but the author expressedly specified that my line of scanners was never going to be supported by his software.

Also, I know that Agfa released software for their line of scanners. And I think Umax released some very limited support for theirs.

Well, for once I can revert my OS X woes not on Apple but on Adobe

No it's not - most scannersoftware is also a seperate application and Canon could release that (just like Nikon did) and release the plugin when ready.
