Read the links, the 750FX will be sampling in January. This means it will not be widely available for several months after that, and also in speeds up to 1GHz, that will certainly not be the introduction speed.
* 14.1" LCD is al least 1" larger that the viewable area on a 15" iMac CRT[
* 14.1" LCD would be cheaper than 15" LCD, helping to keep prices low.
* iBook LCD is a measly 12.1", and it looks great.
* Remember news reports about some company manufacturing 14" LCD for "new apple laptop (son of pismo)"?, maybe it wasn't a laptop. (or the new iMac form factor confused them into thinking it was)

So now, instead of (or in addition to) the megahurtz myth, we are also going to have the "flat panels and inches myth".....
[customer] So, let's see, I can get this Compackard PC with a 17" monitor, or this iMac with a 14" monitor....
[CompUSA sales chimp] Well, they are really pretty much the same screen area... um, the resolution is exactly the same....I mean, when you consider CRT vs LCD and the viewable area and the total screen real estate....
[customer] WTFRU talkin bout, Willis ?
[CompUSA sales chimp] um... er..... oh well, did you want that Compackard PC in 1.2 or 1.4 gigahurtz, sir?
I don't think 14.1" is something to complain about considering it's just an iMac. Before the Ti, I used a Pismo as my main computer and didn't find the screen too small for daily use.
Someone just told me that: M8545LL/A is the part number for OS X 10.1 (and he would have any reason to lie) if anyone wants to confirm this could settle this once and for all... Then again, around here maybe not..
For an iBook it's perfect. But the iMac needs a G4 if it's going to be the digital hub in a household. Multimedea takes to much advantage of a simd unit.
I can see a CRT iMac model if it is only available to the education market, like Apple did with the 533 G4 tower, but I can't see it that way in the main product line.

It would be fine for a person who wants a low cost new Mac.
The original poster is full of shit and you are a bunch of easy teens. Don't buy it. Coming from Ars this night, well baah my arse so full of RDF. Sockdotfullcom or what your name is, stop wasting peoples time. It's boring.

a) Go stick it up your ass. I posted for a guy who asked me too.
sorry... i can't believe, with all this hype, that steve would give so much as a whiff to the retail stores of ANYthing coming out on monday. that's like securing fort knox with a friggin' screen door.
Comments
I really think we will see a 15" LCD.
The radeon is reasonable.
The 1 GHZ G3 maybe a bit high.
Ram configs are reasonable as are the HD's.
Its not real hard to guess the specs on the iMac.
I think its really just a matter if they will be G3 or G4.
Two models with the only difference being the optical drive is totally stupid. Makes no freakin sense.

Why is that?
Who says the G3 can't make 1 GHz?

the part number for the 14.1 CRT iMac cited in the original post is in fact that of the Mac OS X 10.1 upgrade.

G3 is a big mistake too.

Yeah I am sure a 1ghz G3 is real slow.

It's not slow, but it's about time the iMac got a G4.

You need to do some better drugs. Neal Stephenson is an excellent writer and his book Cryptonomicon kicks ass.
