Bash

Does anyone know how to install Bash on os X? I need to install it because in order to create a bootable disc for the mandrake linux iso I need bash. I've downloaded the files but don't know what to do with them. the ./configure make make install doesn't work.

    Hi Gong,

First, if you are referring to Mandrake for mac hardware, don't, it sucks.

Second, you can download .iso disk images, burn them to disk under Mac OS using toast or something.

Third, it doesn't have to be bootable from Mac OS. For example, I installed (for an 'old world mac') BootX which simply asks for some simple setup stuff, and then it will boot off of a Ramdisk, and install files from CD onto your harddrive.

Fourth, if you are talking about OSX (not 9), you have 'bash': it is the console/term you type commands into.

If you are new to linux, try Yellow Dog Linux 2.1. It's got the best Mac support. I've personally used Mandrake PPC and felt it was half-assed.

It's not bash. It's tcsh. You'll have to download BASH off the internet.

Yes, I was referring to Mandrake. I had some problems trying to boot up. I could start up in yaboot, but it would give me an error saying wrong partition 1. I'd like to try yellowdog but the only problem is that at their download site, none of the mirrors work and that from yellow dog is continuously filled. Is there any other place from which I can take it from? Also, I noticed that there is only one .iso download for yellow dog as opposed to two cds for Mandrake (inst, ext) Is there only one? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">
