The format is in its infancy. Your comment is totally biased.

Personally I don't get the point of an ultra portable - you get the worst of both worlds - too big for the pocket yet so small it is frustrating to work on. If you have to lug it around anyway why not get an Air?

Because the Air is weak, thin, and anemic.

And too long to fit anywhere except an old school briefcase.

The article does not mention projections.

    * I refer to the MBA as an ultralight notebook, not an ultraportable do to its footprint.

Excuse me, but where is it projecting ultraportable's fate? Its in its infancy. How long have 13" and greater laptops been around?

Ultraportables have been around a while just with various names. They come. They go. They're niche. One that Apple fills with the Air and iPhone at the moment.

Yes, cue the usual "Imagine how well they would be doing if only they made a <my pet product that apple doesn't make but I really love and since I think I could do a better job than Jobs in arranging Apple's product line anyone who disagrees is obviously an apple fanboi that thinks inside the box like sheeple>"

But it seems as though Apple are doing far better than their competition.

Remember, market share is not a measure of units sold. Credit crunch, etc. had an impact on buying behavior, slowing down the whole segment. Apple was just able to get a bigger piece of the pie.

Neither fills that niche: One is too small; the other too slow.

Yeah -just like many were wishing for an Apple music product for MP3s as if MP3 players never existed before .

I would imagine that Packard Bells market share is declining in the US, you know, since they havent sold a single machine here since 2000.

The writing for this site make me laugh everyday. Hopefully no one take it seriously.

When people are down and out, they often turn top entertainment and toys to froget about life.

To assume they were formerly "affluent" is not logical.

Apple buys Microsoft, cures cancer--shares drop precipitously.

Lehman Bros and Merrill Lynch employees out of jobs may safely be assumed

    to have been relatively affluent.

Awesome, glad to see the improvement of Apple. Can't wait to see what the new line of macbooks/pros will bring in. Maybe they'll even beat out Toshiba next time.

I wish for more ports on the new line of macbooks from Apple. cheaper prices would be nice too.

Taking into consideration this reported 60% growth for Q2 and reported 66% of all consumer PCs over $1000 are Macs. That is getting near the saturation point so Apple would need to be planning major inroads to other countries, the business sector and/or a lower priced PC. A lower priced Mac would be the easiest soltuion.
