I keep see other ppl on other threads which say that have it. Like the one where they disscuse all the stuff about how much faster it is from the 10.1.3 version, and how it's alot nicer. I see that everywhere. I just want to know, where you get the update, it seems everone out there has it.
no you're not crazy. There are a lot of people who have used it at one time, but what has become of 10.2 since the builds that were available in Sept or Oct of 2001 is really quite a mystery now.
It is said that it will be released this summer. It was originally supposed to be released earlier this year but rumor says Apple decided to delay the release and focus on releasing it later with a better quality. Info on that can be found at the think secret website. All that I have read about it is basically that it has spring loaded folders, a little more speed, and more options in the *right click* menus like "open with".
I can't wait for some exciting new info regarding any new 10.2 builds.. something tells me the info will start coming in again around late spring, that's right before MWNY, correct?
What apple should do is buy all these little system add-ons (TinkerTool anyone?) and add them to their system. Even the free ones. Then, all they have to do is incorporate the add-on better into the system.
Apple did this with adding more Dock customization, like changing what side and what minimize effect, which was originally a hack. Eventually Apple will somehow get Watson. They realize this a power app with amazing possibilites. And they will somehow come up with a witty name to put Sherlock and Watson together, like Detective, or iHolmes, or something better than that
The only people that have it are the people that paid Apple $500 for a Select ADC Membership. Or they are using an illegally downloaded version.

Select members don't get it, and I have a feeling that Premiere members don't either. The 10.2 builds probably are internal builds or something.
Apple did this with adding more Dock customization, like changing what side and what minimize effect, which was originally a hack.

Not really a hack as much as using functionality which already existed but had no interface. Apple didn't borrow these dock ideas from shareware developers.... rather the developers prematurely exposed work that was in progress.
What apple should do is buy all these little system add-ons (TinkerTool anyone?) and add them to their system.

Yeah, TinkerTool, right on, and FruitMenu, and SNAX, and WindowShade, and LaunchBar, and ASM, and Duality or MetamorphX, and TransparentDock.
Give us the choice to customize our machines without having to fork out bucks for it every time we want to do it, Apple. If independent developers can do it, then why not Apple? And make X faster. PLEASE.

Regarding the integration of hacks, well, generally I consider it a bad thing. For the mot part, I agree that Apple made the right decision when they changed the interface. Most of the hacks out there are just for people who refuse to give up Classic Mac OS. WindowShade, however, is one thing I'll concede. XWindows also has this functionality and it does do a sufficient job of briefly getting to see behind a window. Apple menu and ASM hacks are best left to third-parties, as they are remnants of the past that users just refuse to let go of.
TinkerTool doesn't need to be integrated because it already is! Remember, TT simply changes variables that don't currently have an GUI for changing. Apple should, however, add options in General and other prefpanes to accommodate them.
Theme switchers? I'm not even going to touch that one.
a friend of mine shipped me a hard drive with a 10.2 build on it. I booted into it and played with it for about 10 minutes. It was less than exciting. He's a developer, so maybe he got it in a mailing. It's still sitting on the drive...
could you go in the terminal and do a "hostinfo"? Do Sping-loaded folders work? If so, do they just replicate OS9esque functionality, or do they go a step further? What build is this? Any sign of better application binding? Any other new features? New preferences? Speed? Does SMB come with a browser interface? Does it feel more responsive? What build of IE has it got?
A friend of mine has a VERY recent Jaguar build on his Powermac. His powermac is a 500 MHz G4, but compared to my 400 MHz G4 w/10.1, that new Jaguar build on his system feels a good 10 fold faster at many important tasks that are dog slow on 10.1. Let me put it this way: performance will not be an issue after Apple releases this update. Even the most whiny bitch would be pleased with Jaguar's speed.
I cannot tell much else about it, other than to say there are some incredibly surprising features that I could have never thought of in my wildest dreams. Apple is going to wipe the floor with XP, no question about it, Jaguar is that good. I'm sure that Jobs will want to release this build at an Expo, just for the media coverage. It's worth shouting about and Jobs would be crazy not to brag. He owes it to the OS X team to brag about Jaguar...it simply ROCKS!
My friend got it because he is a developer who's products are dependent upon some of the parts of OS X that are being drastically changed in Jaguar. He gets new builds every week or two. He wouldn't let me have a copy, all he'd do is let me play with it, and even then he threatened bodily harm if I spread info about it on the net. Thus I cannot tell any more about it other than the speed (not really a feature, but a very subjective characteristic). If I started explaining things in detail he'd put 2 and 3 together and run over and kick my arse. So I'm not answering any questions!
Sounds great, but you'll forgive me if I wait to see if you're still sticking by your story tomorrow...

Oh, he'll stick by the story tomorrow. JYD is notorious for his friends in high places who drink too much and divulge all kinds of secrets. I'd say 3/4 of his posts are based on 'inside' information from friends who work everywhere that might have info relevant to future apple products.
No drink involved on this one, buddy. It's the real thing.
Believe it, or not. I didn't really even say anything new. 10.2 will be faster, that's all I said, basically. And I think most people would agree that 10.2 will be faster than 10.1.
Most would also agree that it will have more features.
All I offer is confirmation of the next logical step for Apple to take with OS X. We're going to see performance optimizations up the wazoo, we'll see new features that take advantage of OS X's uber-Unix base, and it's all going to rock.
If you are familliar with my posts, then you surely know that when booze or weed is involved, I give intricate, detailed reports on inside info (with a sly grin and a little wink). Call it bad humor, call it genius, but whatever you think of it, my report on Jaguar is clearly not of the same breed as my "joke" posts.
