In my opinion, the best optical drive solution for the forthcoming new MacBook Pro would be to go external. One option would be the same external drive developed for the MacBook Air. An external BrD could also be offered. That would improve the weight, cost, size, and battery life of the MacBook Pro.

i think you pretty much nailed it right there. i dont know about leaving the MBP without a drive, actually i doubt there's even a chance, but offering an external BrD would be great.

But as far as having a BrD built in.... No way. Remember they said said they were going to be "aggresive" with the pricing. To me, that means no Br.

    but maybe upgradeable?

I long for the days of the elevator pics. So much more interesting than a screen capture of some text.

That is certainly something that I seems very Apple-ish. What I wonder is if Apple would use a thicker cable to connect the powerbrick and computer so high-speed Ethernet data (and possibly other wired data) can traverse the DC end of the powercord.

Could you elaborate on that. I'm not really getting the gist of what you are saying.

Sorry, it did come out a bit garbled. I wrote it in the 10 minutes between having a shower and riding my bike to work!

This article is probably a good starting point in your quest for understanding.

Maybe I'm missing something but according to the picture in this article there are 12 Mac Placeholders not 6 - 6 marked 'ENG' and 6 marked 'FR'. Does anyone know what the 'ENG' and 'FR' refer to? Could it be 6 MacBooks and 6 MacBook Pro's?

Like for like I'm sure the 15" MBP is good value compared to other products, but I don't need all that power. I'm hoping for a 15" MacBook.

    eng= english, fr= french.

they are all notebooks - so 3 macbooks, 3 macbook pro's. no new models, just a refresh of the current lineup.

Every time a new MacBook related news or thread is made, it turns out to be a BlueRay debate. Seriously, is there anything else we can talk about :/

There seems to be way less leaked information regarding the new MacBook/MacBook Pro compared to the new iPods. I really hope this means Apple will come out with something new instead of just adding some features we already know.

? Rumours that Apple will use Aluminium for the MB's too for it's strength, recyclability, and timeless look.

? If above rumour is true will Apple offer multiple anodized colours to attract more buyers?

? The trackpad has been getting more complex with each passing year. We've gone from a single input to a dual input to a multi-touch input. Will these rumours of a glass trackpad mean that Apple will be moving to a true multi-touch trackpad with visual output under the glass, similar to the iPod Touch.

If we consider that they will upgrade the Macbook to aluminium, I'd chance that the black model will go. So two Macbooks, one Macbook Air and three Macbook Pros.

    How about:

    1.

    Built in 3G data connections.

    2.

    An Apple designed vector processor.

    3.

    A GPU in the MacBooks

    4.

New battery tech that is Lithium free

    5.

GPS built in along with other location based services.

    6.

A "Tough Book" model to compete with Panasonic.

    7.

    Quad processors

    8.

    Bluray of course.

The thing is BluRay is more important to the average person then just about all of the others listed. Bluray rises to the top because it appeals to a large number of people. Not just for movies either.

In any event why didn't you offer up your own desired feature for discusion??

OK so tell us what you mean by new! We can't have a discusion if we don't know what you are talking about.

In any event the lack of rumors could mean anything. In any event shouldn't be long now. Let's just hope they don't blow it like they did with Touch! That is design an improved Touch but leave out the one feature the majority of users need more than anything - storage space!

If Apple goes down the form over function road like they did with AIR sales could suffer.

That would be great for me. I hate the way the HW and SW connects for my AT&T USB card. But I don't see it as being popular enough to warrant it.

X4500 is fine for most people.

Better, cleaner battery tech is always better.

I don't see this as being needed in any way for the average consumer.

This is hard to accomplish. They would need an entirely new line of machines to accomplish this Herculean task.

Not until Nehelam, a year from now.
