iTunes 8 won't install

Doesn't give me any error messages, I did the software update, it downloaded it, said it installed, but I still have iTunes 7.7. I then actually downloaded iTunes 8, installed it, and still have 7.7. There are no error messages, and whenever I open up iTunes it tells me there is an update, but now when software update is run, it doesn't find anything. Any idea why it doesn't "just work?"

Repair permissions and give it a go.

Nope, no go, it did repair some permissions though. ran system update and nothing. Manually installed iTunes 8, says its installing 17.5 MB and that it installed successfully, but still running iTunes 7.7. Weird that it doesn't give me any error messages though.

Have you moved the iTunes app out of the /Applications folder? If so, try moving it back and then running the installer again.

Try removing iTunes completely and then reinstalling it again perhaps?

Just installed iTunes 8.0.1, says it installed correctly but doesn't do anything again. Will look at if there is any more stupidity about uninstalling iTunes apple may have introduced before I uninstall it first.
