WindowshadesX 2.0

I don't know how old this is but I just got the update to WindowshadesX from Unsanity and boy is it cool.

Not only does it do everything that the older versions did as far as allowing you to pick which function did what kind of windowshade but now you can manipulate the window shadows as if you were applying a dropshadow in Photoshop. SWEET feature... WELL worth the money for this App.

Windowshade Rocks, in fact Unsanity Rocks.

However, most of the stuff these (cool) guys do should really be incorporated in the OS. Apple, are you listening?

I second that, Installer. Wasn't the Multi-Finder shareware at first!? I hope Apple buys Unsanity, instead of just copying them (this would be bad for them both.)

It's neat, but I'm not going to pay for it.

An app that brings back WindowShade and allows you to customize your drop shadows for $7?! What a rip-off!! <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Skip two Big Mac Extra Value Meals and buy the dang thing.

Ugh, I always thought windowshades were a band-aid solution for the lack of live dragging in Mac OS. With Aqua, if I want to see behind a window, I can drag it to the side and replace it all without releasing it from the mouse. Easy. And if i want to put the window away for a while, I stow it in the dock, where it's neatly organized. With windowshades, after 3-4 windows were "shaded", it became a rat's nest of troubles trying to open the window I was looking for.

But Installer has a point: Window shades would be a great OPTION in OS X. I may hate them, but it doesn't mean everyone should. Hell they were even an option in OS 9! Leave them off by default, and let the user decide.

But drop shadows, why turn them off? They are essentially a window's border, and they look cool. Too much customizability on the mere appearance of Aqua would harm the recognition and marketing of OS X, and it would confuse Mac users as to what OS a computer was running, whereas a uniform Aqua appearance is easy to identify with OS X. I think Apple should wait until everyone has migrated to OS X, and then offer lots of appearance customization. But that's only my opinion....I suppose all the theme makers out there would say I'm full of sh!t! :-/

WindowShade X will leave a border if you choose to leave one. It will also allow you to make very subtle shadows that will give your UI a snappier feeling.

I'm not going to pay for a hack. Or a "haxie." I don't vitally need it. I'm not going to pay third parties for every little improvement on something that Apple should have taken care of or made wholly obsolete. I don't buy much software, and as a currently jobless minor, a student, with a single parent who is disabled, and considering I stand to benefit very little from this little hack, I'm not going to pay for it. As soon as there is a working serial or hack (for a hack in the first place-- it's hard to fathom!), I'll use it. I never said it didn't look like a neat addition, just something I can't/won't pay for.

Fact is - according to V/T anyway - that a lot of people like it enough to buy it.
