iTunes (Next major update wishlist)

Posted:
in macOS edited January 2014
Features I would like to see:
  • Drag, Drop and Burn on CD/DVD

  • 40X CD-R Burning (if not already supported)

  • Fast MP3 recording

  • Rip offline and tag with Deferred CD lookup

  • Create custom CD Labels with graphic borders

  • Print up to 150 song titles on one MP3 CD cover

  • Scalable Artist/Album panes in "Browse" view

  • Completely unrelated but give us a damn Scroll Wheel Mouse, Apple. I have thousands of songs !!!

The custom-CD labeler would work great with iPhoto, with the ability to drag & drop a picture and have iTunes (or iPhoto) fit the picture onto the shape of a CD, plus have a liner notes feature where a user could create a songlist and perhaps a narrative for the backside. Great for unsigned bands or making mix CD's for friends. I find myself fudging the process with Office X or Appleworks all too often.

You know, I think I'd only be perfectly satisfied with it, if it turned out to be that one player which delivered that feature that I've been looking for since the dawn of mp3s... completely seamless transitions between tracks. Two or three of the CDs that I ripped to mp3s have tracks that just flow into each other as though they were one composition -- which some of them really are, of course. But none of the mp3 players I've ever used (PC or Mac) can recreate that seamless transition perfectly. I even diddled around with the iTunes crossfade effect, which is cool and all, but it still doesn't quite make the cut.

[Edit: Oh yeah... and I think I'll have to second that request for a scrollwheel mouse. ]

    CPU Usage ...iTunes just can't suck 10% CPU of a 733G4 ... it's just an MP3 player ...

    WinAmp sucks 0.5-5% ...max ...

Don't mean to cause a flame war, but it really need some optimization in this area.

I would like to make playlists of playlists. I listen to a lot of electronic music but also like the random play. Quite a bit of electronic music comes on albums where each song flows into the next. In these situations, I would like to force iTunes to link to the next song instead of pulling some other randome song-- sort of a conditional random play.

I really really don't think it would be all that hard to implement. Programmers out there-- it would only take another level of encapsulation, correct? C++ programs, see what i mean? :

    list< list<song> > instead of list<song>

iTunes must remember the state of everything when quit. I want to be returned to the exact song at the exact instant I left it. Also I would like the same shuffling; I want to be able to reshuffle only when I ask for it to be done.

If the next version of itunes keeps all of the current features, but lessens the amount of cpu usage significantly, will be a very happy camper.

It slows my 333 iMac to a crawl..well it could be worse, but when itunes is playing things are as sluggish as they were with the Public Beta of X.

Only one more year until i get my new machine...

I'd like to establish a 'Favorite Streams' list (a nice feature of Audion's).

I'd like to specify 1 or more partitions / volumes, and have iTunes sync the library w/ the current contents of the specified source(s); I'd like a button, menu item, or key combo to trigger the re-sync at will.

I agree because I will be mostly using iTunes at school on my TiBook.

Maybe i'm misunderstanding, but if by streams, you mean the radio from the radio tuner, you can already do this. just drag the channel over to a playlist.

What iTunes really needs: Built-in file management--

    - I want to be able to rename all the actual files based on the ID3 tags for nice consistancy (i.e. so I can quickly locate the song on the drive). Building in/integrating the capabilities of AudiferousID3 would be way cool.

    - I want to use iTunes to have actual file management capabilities. If I don't want it in iTunes, I don't want it on my drive. So when I delete a song from my library, also remove the file (the usual warning option should be present, of course). Currently I use the AppleScript that Apple put out <a href="http://www.apple.com/applescript/itunes/"; target="_blank">www.apple.com/applescript/itunes/, but I'd like to see this fully built-in. (Of course, iPhoto needs this feature more badly than iTunes ;-).

    - Oh yeah, I second the "use less CPU" request, too! ;-)

This is why God gave us playlists.

I agree 100% with the advanced file management and this right here, which is IMO vital:

"I'd like to specify 1 or more partitions / volumes, and have iTunes sync the library w/ the current contents of the specified source(s); I'd like a button, menu item, or key combo to trigger the re-sync at will."

    iTunes needs the following:

    ?Greatly reduce CPU usage

    ?LAME support

    ?Return all lost SoundJam features

?Get rid of the brushed-metal look (I can't stand it)
