If that is the case, then I fully expect it to be a 10.5 update. It's been too long since 10.1 and if it pans out like we hope, it will be a major overhaul of the OS.
maybe they will not make us pay. I mean, I do not think Apple is that worried about losing money on software sales. They give away some of their best software and they always make money on computer sales and on pro-sales. A nominal fee i guess it will be!
I reckon with the rumoured features of 10.1.5, i.e. the improvements to anti-aliasing, and office vX update touted to hook into quartz AA, then I don't think we can expect 10.2/10.5 until the end of summer. Given that the office update is gonna ship end of june, then that might mean a long wait for Jaguar.
Paris might be a good one for a Jaguar release. I'll be there.
Personally, I'd rather see them get things like GPU acceleration of Quartz before they release 10.2/10.5.
I have a wierd suspicion that Apple will charge for this update.
The funny thing is, if they keep it to $30 or $40 dollars, I wouldn't even mind! That's assuming, of course, they they introduce enough speed improvements, and maybe a couple "gee wiz" new useful features or eye candy...
I'll guarantee you they'll charge for it. Question is, how will the pricing breakdown go?
I suspect anyone running 10.1 will get it for maybe $69 and anyone else will have to pay the full $129. But as I said in another thread, if it's anywhere *near* as robust an update as people think - I'll gladly pay $69 for it.

I think for Apple to charge, from a PR perspective, they really should have some over-the-hood big new features to announce. Consumers that don't see quantifiable (word? well, as opposed to quality) changes don't get too enthused or open their wallets. Me included I think. Oh hell, they know that I know that I'll pay for the upgrade.

It will be free, count on it. Until OS X has feature parity with OS 9, updates for it will be free. Apple will charge for OS X updates once it begins to get features not found in OS 9 (not including the features of Unix OS X has had from day one).
Why does everyone bitch and moan incessantly about paying for an upgrade, especially if it is a big one?
C'mon, most of you have multi-thousand dollar pieces of fine engineering sitting on your desks. You are running Apps that *should* cost you thousands of dollars and you're complaining about paying $20, $30 or even $50.
whatever is in jaguar, better be good. i hate empty hype. (i'm so slow, i just noticed apple is promising a preview of it at WWDC2002.) that means it'll probably be a 10.5 update and we have to pay, right? guess we'll find out in 2 weeks...

Just a note, I think some people have the mistaken assumption that 10.5 is right-around-the-corner -- I think they may have confused it with 10.1.5 which will be released shortly and includes features such as Carbon support for Quartz font-rendering

Unfortunately, this means it's gonna cost us

Huh, huh, heh, huh, you said "sixty nine".

I feel like they will now charge... though I don't want them to charge.

Give me a break.

Yeah, just like 10.1, right?
