I installed windowmaker through fink and I also have the x free 86 XDarwin. How do I actually tell XDarwin to use windomaker as the window manager? At the moment it still uses the default.

Create a file in your home directory called .xinitrc and be sure it includes the line exec wmaker and has no other references to other window managers. Then, relaunch XDarwin and voila!
