Though Apple is "committed to being the best Java platform available", I still fear we have a while to wait on that.... Just speculation, but I know they have some jobs posted for Sr. java programmers... They are working on it, but i would honestly prefer a really solid fully functional 1.3.1 first. One of the nasty things of rapid development is the tendency to leave somethings unfinished in favor of bluer skies ahead....

I am not too worried right now because 1.4 was only finalized a month or so ago, but I hope we'll get 1.4 when X.2 ships. In the meantime, they should continue improving and speeding up 1.3.
I did notice after installing Java 1.3.1 Update 1 that several applications starting faulting. The worst problem is windows with no content - really annoying.
