I don't know if any of you guys visit fuc#edcompany.com. It's a fun site that has some pretty, ehh...semi reliable information <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> about the untold ongoings at companies making deals, laying off workers, etc.

This is what is on their site today (posted 5\\10\\02):

<a href="http://www.****edcompany.com/"; target="_blank">Fuc#edcompany.com Apple Rumor</a>

-----------------------------------------

Rumor has it the once high-flying iChat, an early instant messenger company (like AOL IM, ICQ, etc....) has been purchased by Apple for integration into their operating system. Word is apple bought the code and the trademark, $120,000. No, that's right, one-hundred-twenty-thousand. Doors closed. iChat as we knew it is dead.

When: 5/10/2002

Company: iChat

Severity: 25

Points: 125

------------------------------------------

You can check out the retarded comments about this rumor here.

This seems possible, but who knows. I emailed the iChat sales department about it this afternoon...waiting to hear back. [email protected]

What do you guys think?

Seems unlikely. How difficult would it be for Apple to code up an AIM client WITH the support of AOL? Fire, Adium, and Proteus have done it w/o any support. $120k is a lot to spend for an IM client. They could have bought the rights to Adium for less.

If its true, they bought it purely for the trademark and nothing else.
