Come on! You can play a few games on the iPhone, but a "portable gaming console"?

I am not into portable gaming, but the iPhone seems an unlikely candidate for a "portable gaming console". The ones I see people using are configured for what they do and the iPhone is not.

Can you have fun on it? I guess so, but I do not think that makes it a "console". I doubt anyone would buy an iPhone specifically for the purpose of playing games.

Yes, I agree with you - I don't own an iPhone but I'd say that "portable gaming console" is probably a bit of a stretch. I wouldn't buy one with that in mind, but then again my gaming pursuits on an Apple platform are limited to simple games like Lines by Konstantin Anoshkin and Pairs at http://www.blocksoft.net/ so I guess in reality I am not much of a gamer.

Besides, when I really want to do some hardcore gaming, my son has an XBox 360 with some pretty cool shoot-em-ups for it...

One thing is for sure - Apple will never go down with fans like Tauron. Heck, they can decide to move from making computers and gadgets to making beach towels, and I'm sure Tauron would be among the first to explain rest of us us why beach towels are actually all we need while computers are only for some clueless losers

I would really envy Apple if I was HP, Lenovo, Dell... anyone. Actually, I'm sure they all do.

I'm out of this tread, see you all around.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but one of the things I like about Windows is the ability to uninstall OS updates. It's a feature I long wished for in Mac OS X...

I never felt the need for that with mac os because the updates work and don't foobar your computer.

In general, I would agree with you. I did have issues with a QuickTime update some time ago, but usually updates are fine (although some MacBook Pro owners would love the option to uninstall 10.5.6)...

The problem is not as great with OS X, but it has happened on several occasions. I recall one instance when several people at Apple who were responsible for it were escorted from the building.

I have encountered it and it would not be bad to have an additional option. Is it a deal breaker? Of course not, but it is not a bad idea to be able to install an earlier dot something version or move back to it. Nowadays, I hold on to a cloned backup of the prior version until I can demonstrate that the new version works OK. I guess the hard drive manufacturers like me. ;-)

One of the 10.3 updates broke the wifi on my iBook. The next "security" update magically fixed it. I was not amused by this.

In the past yes, but not so much in Leopard. Its been almost like running windows...with more features. There have been problems with almost every patch. 10.5.3 made my wireless networking so unstable that it was barely usable (iBook running 10.3.9 no problems at all and it was much farther away from the router) and this wasn't corrected until 10.5.6.

It's redeeming quality, is that it made computing cheap for the masses, and 99% works, if you have half a brain.

If it wasn't for MS, we'd probably be stuck paying thousands and thousands for computers still.

While there is a point you get what you pay for, Windows isn't hard to use, and it works fine for day to day use, even on cheaper HW. And the Windows version of Office isn't a piece of junk. Also, Apple doesn't have business-class SW (no, IWork won't be challenging Office anything soon, short of a complete rewrite of Numbers and a good DB app).

As far as the Windows updates vs OSX updates, and the OSX not fubaring your computer, would that be why there is always a thread about OSX updates everytime one comes out? Perhaps I've been lucky, but my Windows and OSX updates have always worked.
