Can I burn mp3s to MiniDiscs in OS X?

So is it possible to burn mp3s to Sony's new NetMD players in X... and I don't mean doing it in realtime with a headphone cable <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />



Don't flame me with iPod crap, I can't afford it, and I want to record on the fly... both the radio and with an ext. mic.

    I think that you're out of luck. There's not been a mini-disc app for the Mac that has EVER allowed us to record from computer to mini-disc recorder with ATRAC output.



    Never.



    The only software that I've seen is FROM Sony, and since Sony makes their own PCs, they stick to only developing Windows compatible software.



    Don't think that I haven't done my homework. About every six months I go poking around to find out if there's been a Mac solution to this problem, but so far no dice. Now, with the advent of the iPod, the possibility is even more remote.



    This is unfortunate. I'm still forced to record my CDs to mini-disc in real-time, then use my specially-imported-from-Japan remote control keyboard to laboriously type in every track of every CD that I record to mini-disc. It sucks, but having a mini-disc player in my car has been fantastic. No scratched CDs and tons of music in a fifth of the same space.



    So, don't hold your breath for an OS X solution to your problem...there aren't enough of us to merit anyone to pick it up and provide a solution...much to my regret.

    Couldn't you run Sony's NetMD software on a Mac using Virtual PC 5?

    Ahh your not missing much, sony md players are pretty dire, Two have broke for me and my old sharp 722 still works to this day despite being kicked about in a bag all day every day. And real time recording isn't so bad, just set it going on a playlist and watch a movie or sleep hehe

    Then again I do most of mine with my stereo becuase I can't listen to mp3 quality, sounds horrible no matter what quality it is, so I need to get cds and vinyl and md them.

    Well, there is an open-source project that offers hope--if completed, it would actually allow music to be transferred to a computer from a MiniDisc, which Sony's NetMD software doesn't allow.

    That's a weird OpenSource project....having a "stats" page of how many people visit their website seems strange...it's like an old Monty Python skit that starts off being a murder mystery...but devolves into a discussion of train schedules....

    screw minidiscs. i bought a portable a couple years ago and it was so inconvenient putting music on those discs. eventually it got stolen, and i hardly cared.

    You obviously got a crappy one. Its best really if you just buy a stereo with md too (which i did later) and its great, just throw in an md and record music to it the first time you listen to the CD. But of course if you can live with crap mp3 quality and either super pricey HD mp3 players, or those huge skippy mp3cd player things then go for it

    The only real reason to get a MD is for recording . . . like bootlegging shows.

    Yeah I would totally use it for recording concerts and such. But if I can't dump my mp3s onto it faster than real-time, then its kinda junky.... completely lacking the Apple elegance that I desire...



    Maybe iPod will learn to record *sigh*

    If you do get one, go Sharp. The 722 is so nasty for bootlegging.
