G5, re-sets / re-starts ? sort of?

Ok folks, who has the answer?

I have a G5 2.5 ghz, that as of recently, kind-of blinks, everything disappears then comes back up, all in a nano second. Hell if you blink at the same time it happens, you'd must it. It is starting to do it A LOT as of today.

I tried to back up the drives, onto a external drive, but every time it starts to backup, it does it thing again i.e., blinks,and comes back up. It doesn't copy any files while of after it comes back up.

Any chance it's a simple as the small battery?

It's the same one that came with the unit some what, 4, 5 years ago?

does the screen come back to where it was everytime??

this machine sounds like it's one with the bad cooling pumps.

check the inside for leakage on the power supply, it lays in the bottom.

It does come back to the same spot it was at, each and every time.

It's not leaking (yet).

***after finally getting it to start from the Apple repair CD, I get these error codes:

25TH/1/2:CPUA.AD 7417 AD1

Then after running the test again, I get this one:

25TI/8/3:B

Reset PMU, and right now, it's working fine, but I thinks, I'm going to need a new one soon:

it might be the GPU, but you stated that trying to move files wasn't working either.

i've seen odd stuff happen when batteries go dead.

that machine, I would just yank the drives, hook them up with an adapter or put them in exteral cases & then use another mac to copy / burn disc.

if it's one of the CPUs, it might just be time to save up for a new machine. those aren't a cheap fix on a G5, unfortunately.
