Jag appearance sounds

Hi guys... usually I'm a lurker but I decided to register in order to ask about this:

Are the appearance sounds in 10.2 the same as the "Platinum" sounds in 8/9? If not... could somebody post mp3 or mp4s? A .sit of mp4s would be ideal. I'm very curious about this for some reason....

Also, has anybody else noticed apple.com being very slow since MWNY? Images not loading fully or not at all, or loading slowly when they do load? I tried pinging the akamai server (crs.akamai.com) that most of them come from and had 100% packet loss....

WELL, they are different but I do not know how (or if) they are implemented in 10.2.0

First of all, the sounds are not stored in a single, flat "soundset" file as they were in OS8/9. Rather, they are AIFF files, separated into directories per their functions. They are contained in the CoreAudio.component. So, changing them would be as difficult as the current appearance "themes" that simply replace key HIToolbox files.

Second, no, they do not sound like the platinum soundset. They have a unique Aqua-like sound to them. I'll let you imagine the possibilities.

And lastly, no, the sound events are not nearly as extensive as the OS8/9 ones. I'd say 10.2 gets 5% of the old sound events. It ain't much.

In defense of the new sound set, it's much less annoying than the Platinum sound set. IMO.

It definitely is minimal though. (Hopefully there's a little more to come...) Those wanting dings, zips, and booms for every menu and mouse action will still have to rely on Xounds.

I have noticed this too. Perhaps this is worthy of a new thread for discussion. Perhaps not.

Ever try pinging ebay.com? 100% packet loss. Ever wonder why? Remember that good ole' DoS attack on ebay.com and omse other sites, well ebay has had 100% packet loss since then. They are blocking pingand tracert packets. It clogs bandwidth and CPU cycles if there are enough of them. The same is true with the akamai servers, they aren't stupid enough to let people DoS them to death.

Thanks peve... but those weren't the sounds I ws talking about. I meant interface sounds. Go to HD/System/Library/Components/CoreAudio.component/Contents/Resources/SystemSounds.

The contents of that folder is what I need and crave!!!!!!!

    Could you try that again?
