cool thanks I don't need to rebuild my desktop I just thought i would ask I did a search on google.com/mac and didn't come up with any thing that involved rebuilding the desktop for OSX.
there IS a way to rebuild the desktop in Mac OS X... I did a Google search for it and i found how to do it. The site is <a href="http://www.macosxhints.com" target="_blank">web page</a>

I tried it with mixed results-- I had lost some icons, and this brought it back.

There are no desktop in OS X Finder is just another application.
However, there are some tools that "rebuild" your computer by prebinding, repairing privileges, defragmenting, etc.
To prebind, download software called "XOptimize"
To repair privileges, download software called "Apple Repair Privileges"
To defragment your hard drive, buy either Norton Utilites or Drive 10

...then log out and back in again. But you really shouldn't ever have to do this.
