Quartz Extreme on latest iBooks

Can anyone clarify whether the current iBooks will benefit from the new Quartz Extreme features of Jaguar?

<a href="http://www.apple.com/macosx/jaguar/quartzextreme.html"; target="_blank">http://www.apple.com/macosx/jaguar/quartzextreme.html</a>;

States:

"Requirements:

Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video GPUs: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX, GeForce3, GeForce4 MX, or GeForce4 Ti or any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required."

While the ibook specs read:

"Graphics support

ATI Mobility Radeon graphics accelerator with 16MB of dedicated graphics memory and AGP 2X support"

So will the mobility graphics cards support QE?

many thanks 4 advice

Yeah it will, the ATI Mobility Radeon is still an AGP-based GPU and it has the required 16MB VRAM.

    Quartz Extreme Requires:

16MB of video memory (32 recommended)

    AGP 2X (4X recommended)

    And decent anti-aliasing.

The RADEON Mobility supports all these.

Will it work on a new Snow imac?

    with a 16MB Rage 128 Ultra AGP 2X?

I'm afraid not. ATI RADEON cards, only.

The Rage 128 supports the first two requirements I noted, but it does not support anti-aliasing.

The real reason Rage 128 isn't supported is that it doesn't support textures of arbitrary, non-power-of-two sizes. It doesn't have DMA support for many of the Quartz pixel formats either.

There might have been some other missing features, too, but I can't remember those.

Quartz Extreme doesn't really need antialiasing because the compositor lays all the quads on exact pixel boundaries. Any antialiased drawing of primitives happens in Quartz 2D, which isn't hardware accelerated in Jaguar.

And I can confirm that it does. iBook 12 inch, 700.
