release info on status of OS completion?? i know why they don't want to talk about hardware improvements (don't want to hurt current sales), but they already have a release date for 10.2, have facts about 10.2 all over there website and such....why don't they also add a page that sez..."10.2 is at build #%@&! and is FC1 or FC2 or build *^$^% is now at GM and we will be pressing CDs this week"...a page like that couldn't possibly hurt current sales and could help get people excited for future buys.....sure only the geeks will care and visit the page daily...but the geeks are important to apple and important for sales and profit....g

We know it's going to be available August 24 (22 days!), so what does it matter?

because we are geeks (thegelding sez with luv)....we know it is coming on Aug 24th, yet we still are chasing down every lead as to whether this is GM or not....ahhh, but perhaps the chase is more sweet than the capture....g

Ah, of course. I'm not a geek at all. No sir. And don't intend to be there when the store opens that Sunday. Nope.

Nor have I started burning my files onto CD-R in preparation for a clean installation. Nuh-uh.

    No geeks here, then.

The biggest excitement for me is that it's available so soon. I was expecting Jobs to be defining summertime again...

Ah, Belle. Good to see you again. Maybe I should follow your lead and dig out that FireWire CD-RW that I bought last summer but never used. It's already depreciated drastically, so I might as well do something with it. That would certainly be cheaper than buying that portable 2.5" FireWire I've been yakking about. In any case, I too am delighted that I will be able to upgrade to Ja-gou-aar before I begin my last year of law school.

Back on topic: my hunch is that Apple doesn't say which build is the actual GM so as to reduce trafficing in pre-release builds. Anybody remember the quantity of Office v.X builds circulating on the web, claiming to be the GM, even months after retail was on store shelves?

My copy of Jaguar is on order from the Apple store. Only way I can get it at academic price. Let's hope Apple upgrades all order to overnight shipping for delivery on the release date (or earlier)!

I've got the rents' all excited about printer sharing. My mum's envisioning wirelessly printing from downstairs. Should be fun!

    Ugh. I am so tempted to lock this thread. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

Bell is right. It doesn't matter what the build number is or when it hits GM. Is it because you want to know whether to wait another couple days before pirating a build? Do you want a rehash of all the "4K78" bitchfest?

    *shrug*

Apple is a very secret company...they do not tell information like this

    they should rename the stores,

    get this,

( i thought about this on the can after reading this)

    Apple's Secret

    OR

    Steve's Secret

eh? eh? Ahhh, screw you all!

    come back....please <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

I was going to post what Brad already wrote.

All we need to know is that it's out on the 24th. If Apple said what build was GM or something, it just means everybody would know which version to pirate. They certainly are under no obligation to do that. Anyway, the developers are relatively informed about what's going on. They are the only ones the progress should matter to.
