MBP 15" Unibody - Trackpad not recognizing tapping

My trackpad decided to stop recognizing any gestures/tapping, etc. I have to keep restarting and then it works. Any ideas or suggestions?

    I'm assuming you've checked the system pref settings for your track pad?

    yes, i made no changes. The entire trackpad stops working intermittently.
