I'm personally inclined to think that the entirety of what was posted on thinksecret and macminute today is complete and utter bunk. ... Thank you, and enjoy yourself next Monday.

I'm with you - SJ must be laughing his head off! We'll all be smiling Monday afternoon.
I've heard a lot if shite recently, but this article tops everything. There may be some truth to many of the things they announced, but the fastest machine barely hitting 1000MHz is a joke. and if it's not, it's Apple's death sentence.
[quote] Hell, I'd pay up to $2000 for an iMac if it had a widescreen display, G4 and Superdrive. It would have to have all of those things though, not just one or two of them.

$2K is too high for a consumer/edu box esp in todays economy.
What i would like to see is the cube reintroduced. 1GHz, 256MB DDR ram , Combo Drive, 40GB hard drive, ATi Radeon 8500(or matrox as an alternative). $1299. This is what should be EXPECTED of apple

YOU my friends are in for a HUGE dissapointment.
UMMM DDR 1GHz COMBO RADEON 8500 FOR $1300?!?!?!?!?!?!?
IN THE CUBE??
NOT EVER going to happen, sorry.
haha expected? i dont think so, most people are sane.
how about iMac G4 1 GHZ with 15" LCD and superdrive??
would you buy??
or iMac G4 1 GHz with widescreen 15.2" LCD and Superdrive??
or
New iMac LCD hub with iPod attached/included? the iPod fits into an cut-out in the side of the new iMac. New G3 1 GHz chip with combo-drive???
or New iMac LCD hub with iPod attached with G4 and superdrive??
an SE of the new iMac could easily be 1800 if it was loaded or unique....the question is how well will it sell....i would probably get any of the configurations above (except maybe the g3 since i want superdrive)....g

Why is that such an outrageous spec for the price?? Wintels offer more for under $1000.
I think even $1300 is too much for the Cube. After all, it has no expansion capability, even the video card is non-standard. It is essentially an iMac without a monitor. So take the price of an iMac, $1200, subtract $200 for the display, and we have a $999 Cube.
I say the Cube should cost $1200, and it should have a 1 GHz G4, 266 MHz bus or faster, ddr ram, and add a few USB and Firewire ports to the front or top so they are easily accessable.
Then bundle the cube with Apple LCD displays, and knock off $100 from the display, so you can buy a GHz Cube + 17" display for about $2000. I bet Apple would have trouble keeping those suckers in stock.

Mmmm, never heard that one before. Go back to the last several MacWorlds and count the number of people who said:
"If we don't see LCD iMacs with G4 by July 2001, Apple will go bankrupt within three months!!?!"
or
"If Apple can't put 226mhz bus & ram speed in their Powermacs by next Macworld, they're doomed!!"
Somehow, all these hysterical proclamations have failed, as yet, to accurately predict the end of Apple. And somehow, I think even if Apple releases NOTHING but a purple iPod and LCD iMacs next week, they'll still be in business when the next MacWorld rolls around and people make the same hysterical proclamations.

I just found this-
[quote] Confirmed: NASA has discovered a meteor heading straight for Earth. They said they fear it will destroy the planet upon impact. They said the sudden polar shift in the planet's megahertz was so unevenly lopsidded that it threw the Earth off it's axis and placed up in the meteor's path. The scientists refer to this as the "megahertz gap".
Scientists say the only thing that can save us is a huge leap in megahertz gains to help correct the Earth's axis. A faster system bus may help, but scientists aren't sure. All they know, if this megahertz gap needs to be closed immediately to avoid catastrophe.
NASA concluded that sometime Monday, Janurary 7th the meteor may hit the Earth, if the megahertz gap with not closed, and destory us all.

See!?!? Apple's inability to close the megahertz gap will destroy us all! We are doomed if we get G4's topping out at 1,000mhz!!
[quote]sorry but no machine that has a fixed display size and has no other upgrade paths than RAM is worth 1800 dollars.
anyone saying it is is insane.
these specs and prices are a joke and if true forget about apple. I know I will.

Applenut is so right. If this iMac rumor is correct, then Apple is on the brink of another Cube fiasco, but worse. Apple cannot afford to have their new iMac flop. And if it is priced at $1800, it will flop, badly. Nobody is stupid enough to pay so much for a disposable computer. OK, some people will, but only the Apple apologists nearing brain-death.
"All Expo Highlights," eh? I think DrinkSecret is missing a few things. I don't see any real bombshells in there, and I especially don't believe Jobs is suicidal enough to try to market an $1800 iMac, flat panel or no.
A few speed bumps, a few new colors... that's standard fare.
Comments
Those specs/prices are a joke, if there is no G4 iMac and 1.4Ghz G4/5 after Apple's hype they can expect their share value to die.
I also expect other things on Monday (apps, one more thing?) but this is misdirection and as irrelevant as the badly-faked iWalk.
