Yup, it makes absolutely NO sense to pre-order earlier from Apple. Either there is no correlation between when you order and when you receive the item, or (as it seems to me) there's an inverse correlation.

I picture an office with "Pre-Orders" written on the door. In this office is a tall stack of papers, each one a pre-order. When they get another order, *smack*, on top of the stack it goes. When it comes time to start shipping the item, the whole pre-orders stack is moved to another office ("Prep for Shipping") where the slips of paper are taken, one by one, from the top of the stack and processed. So, all they need to do is flip this stack over, top to bottom, at some point between the "Pre-Orders" office and the "Prep for Shipping" office. Perhaps they can't find a device that can handle this.

Clearly Apple reads these boards because 5 minutes after I made my last post I received the email to say it had shipped

Oh and I ordered as soon as the keynote was over.

Ha ha ha ha ha! I just picked up Jaguar at the little local German computer store.

I scoff at all you that usually get all the good stuff first. I throw a guffaw for those who don't have to pay taxes on their on-line purchase. I fahrt in the general direction of your mother's hamster's elderberries! Don't you wish you had an outrageous German accent like me? Watch as I do my little Superior dance (isn't that special?).

But luckily I'm too modest to gloat. Now, if I can just get this friggin' package opened...

Not only does Apple's shipping order make no sense at all, there's clearly not even a reverse correlation between order date and ship date. Case in point: Eugene says he ordered right after the keynote and already got his tracking number. Others ordered a month later and got their tracking number as well. Then there's murk and me, who ordered after the keynote and are still waiting for any sign of life from the Apple Store. Darn!

The only consolation is that I am only paying edcational price and that Apple upgraded my shipping from free to FedEx. I just hop it ships today so that I can really get Jag on Saturday.

    Escher

[Edit: Why couldn't I spell "correlation" correctly? Maybe because I wanted to use this heavy alliteration.]

Ordered 10.2 up-to-date on 8/14. Went with the free shipping. Still shows 'Being Assembled' as of this a.m.

Guess they don't rush anything unless you are paying full price huh??

That doesn't work either. Still being assembled. Maybe I'll play my ace. I'm a stockholder. After all the Apple execs bailed out over the spring, maybe if I threaten to sell my few shares, Steve will jump in the jet and hand deliver. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> Maybe I should just cancel and be the one who ruins the party at an Apple store with the kind of ranting I've done here (My apologies to everyone). At least I can laugh about it now. It's pathetically funny in a Catch 22 sort of way. I might cancel, but then again it might be worth seeing how many weeks they put me off this time. Can they break their record of 3 months for my computer?

Es tut mir wirklich leid. Ich fand diese «thread» lustig.

It made me call my local store to see if they had received it. It just came in today. They weren't supposed to sell it until Saturday, but a buck's a euro.

Normally, I watch in envy as you guys in the States get all of the good stuff first. For once, I'm on the winning side of the ocean.

    Maybe we'll win again when Ericsson releases their <a href="http://www.sonyericsson.com/cebit/p800.htm"; target="_blank">P800 phone.</a>

I picture a large, drum shaped hopper with all of the orders in it. At one end there is a hamster-like treadmill with Phil Schiller inside. Steve shouts, "Hit it, fat boy!" and Schiller runs until he trips and the wheel tumbles him a few times. Steve reaches in a pulls out an order. Phil readies himself for the next round. It's all perfectly fair in a Jobsian world, I suppose.

I like your picture better. Seems to fit the evidence better, too.

I just thought of something else (be on-guard, this is moving into conspiracy theory): people who pre-order way in advance could be seen, in Apple's eyes, as those who are more willing to wait longer to get what they ordered. Like, for example, say they currently have (for simplicity's sake) only one copy of Jaguar to send out and they've got two orders to fill. One is from a dumb-ass (let's say ME) who pre-ordered as soon as it was possible to do so. The other is from someone who just ordered 5 minutes ago. You can only fill one of those orders. Common sense says, "Hey! Fill that first order. It's much older." But, conspiracy sense says, "That guy that pre-ordered so long ago won't cancel his/her order if we make him/her wait a little bit longer - he/she obviously really wants Jaguar. Fill the other order."

Mine shipped as of this morning. I ordered it through Education Store on August 19th...I would have done it earlier, but my mom was going to buy an iBook and hates OSX, so I was gonna take her Jag CDs. But hopefully I will be running Quartz Extreme on my TiBook on Saturday...

    Good News

Just Called Apple, their website has NOT been updated, but packages are shipping.

My Edu order from 8/13 (free shipping), went out last night, Apple upgraded for free to 2-Day FedEx, I should have it by tomorrow.

If you want to know your tracking #, just call Apple. I never received any email, and the webpage still says "Being assembled". So for all in the same situation, THERE IS HOPE.

I ordered mine on the 17th of July, and I've got an email sitting right here saying that it's on it's way! Hoorah!

With any luck I'll have it in my greasy little mitts on Saturday morning, ready to install.

Now, I must away and clear up all the garbage littering my system...

    Started install 12:40 hrs

Originally had OSX/9 on seperate Partition. All my main Apps (PS, AI, Office, Acrobat, etc) on seperate partition. All Documents on separate partition. Left all items in dock, net monitor in Menu bar, Lauchbar in Menu bar, ie, left system as I used it.

Ran Install as upgrade to existing OSX (just stick CD in and it restarts on click to install)

    Run Install Disk 1.

    Restart

    Run Install Disk 2

    Finish 13:40 hours

Open up ie in dock , on line through Airport DSL no problems.

Only thing that died was Norton Antivirus (which I had left in Auto-Protect Mode during Install). Lost Quake 3 out of the Dock?

Runs fine, don't seem much different but just beginning to play

    Bigc isn't alone.

I can't friggin believe it! The doorbell rings. It's the FedEx man, even though the shoes I was supposed to get today were coming by UPS. It was my Jaguar delivery! Ordered the day of the keynote from the Apple Store for Education with free shipping. I am not religious by any stretch of the imagination, but some sort of luck was involved today.

I just finished backing up my data to my SmartDisk FireLite FireWire drive and installing Jaguar after a reformat of my main HDD. Installation and data restoration, excluding backup, took about 1.5 hours. In the short time I've been using Jag, it has fulfilled my expectations. My iBook/500 with the lousy 66Mhz bus feels so much better... smooth like butter...

    Can you feel my bliss?

Muss dir gar nichts leid tun. Ich freute mich fuer dich. Ich fand diesen thread auch lustig, jetzt noch einiges mehr wo mein Jaguar Paket zwei Tage frueher als erwartet eingetroffen ist.

I am genuinely happy for you. It's only fair that Europeans get Apple product first for a change.

There I have no doubt. US residents can't even really get the T68i yet. I guess there are good elements to both sides of the big puddle.

    Escher, with heart still palpitating

    [Edit: Fixed an embarrassing typo.]
