Ki Pro records files to the Apple ProRes codec directly from camera, allowing filmmakers, broadcasters, video professionals and prosumers to skip the process of re-rendering to an editing codec by giving immediate access to 10-bit full raster edit-ready ProRes files. Ki Pro was introduced today, and will be on display at the AJA Booth (SL2513) during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 20-23, 2009.

This is nice. Say you have an old Canon HDV Pro camera . The HDV format is limited to 25Mbps and doesn't do 10-bit video but let's say you have the larger HL-Sx camera with HD-SDI outputs. You can now record out these SDI outputs into 10-bit ProRes 422 video which is going to give you better color and no camera procesing. You've just extended the life of this camera and your lens collection in addition recording to a format that can easily be plopped into Final Cut Pro and edited.

BUT WAIT...THERE'S MORE!

?A big part of the RED ONE?s success in the cinema and television markets, is the combination of stunning 4K images along with flexible and logical post production solutions? said Ted Schilowitz of RED Digital Cinema. ?The ability to record ProRes directly from the live HD videotap output from a RED ONE on a small portable device, while capturing the 4k REDCODE raw on the camera is a big deal. And I probably don?t even need to mention that because it?s an AJA product, it will no doubt hit the legendary quality and top notch level of support that industry pros have come to count on every day on the job.?

Now THAT is cool. You can record simultaneously to 4K REDCODE and archive this for when you need to go back and deliver a end to end 4k product (really expensive) you have the files but the ProRes 422 encode is what you'll be delivering 2k HD and SD versions with.

Lastly for $4k you get this support.

Quote:

Ki Pro will allow users to record hours of pristine ProRes media to a removable storage module with built-in FireWire 800, or to 34mm ExpressCard Flash, for immediate editing and file access. The unit can connect to any digital camera via SDI or HDMI, or any analog camera with multiple input options. Ki Pro is priced at $3995 US MSRP and will be shipping in June of 2009.

So you have FW800 (hell even a mini supports that ) and ExpressCard flash for Macbook Pro users. If your camera doesn't have HD-SDI outputs you can sill do analog or even HDMI!

The tapeless revolution continues!

Imagine a RED Scarlet with the Pro Cinema outputs that give you HD-SDI going into a Ki Pro for a $10k tapeless solution.

    Red Rocket accelerator -

?RED Rocket. R3D Decode, debayer and playback high quality REALTIME 4k at 30fps (or 5K at 25fps).

Will accelerate FCP, Premiere, After Effects, RED Alert!, REDCINE, REDrushes or any application using the REDCODE SDK.

    Schwiiing

RED RAY!!! - - You're not going to believe this

? Ted was passing along is the average data rate for RED RAY 4K @ 24 fps is only 10 Mbit/sec.? did you get that 10MBIT/SEC BLU RAY people please walk away in shame and join HD DVD seriously

4k rez people ...avg datarate 10Mbit per second. Man RED should buy or license the failed HD DVD hardware and make RED Ray capable playback but then again how do you output 4k video easily. HDMI won't do it.

    Prime Lens

Picture says more than a thousand words.

    20k for the set

Too bad distributing movies has gotten so expensive because the financial cost of delivering something that looks good is plummeting.

Just a point of clarification-- the link goes to the 6 lens prime set, which includes the 300mm.

That set is $23K. The five lens set is $19K-- just dropped from $20K.

But: the combo of the new direct record AJA deck and Red Rocket looks to really go a long ways towards addressing the post production part of the puzzle, for the Red revolution. Yee ha!

It'll all eventually end up on YouTube... so stick with the Flip video cam instead.
