My car plays mp3 CDs, but can't read AAC files. My issue is that I want to burn a mp3 CD, but half my songs are AAC files. Is there a way to tell iTunes to convert the file to mp3 just to burn to CD?

I know you can convert it to an mp3, but if I convert half of my library I'm going to have a lot of doubles. I just want iTunes to convert it to burn it. Not to add it to the library

    I don't think so.

My response was to create a playlist of the songs I want to do that with, then have iTunes convert that entire playlist to mp3 while I slept. The next morning they're ready to burn, then delete.

A bit of a pain, but the only way I know to accomplish your goal.

Of course, I then discovered that Pioneer makes car-stereos that read AAC... Now I are happy.

I don't believe AAC is any better than MP3. With that in mind, I would convert the AAC files to MP3 and delete the AAC files. When you delete the files, send them to the trash can. Make a folder on your desktop and move all the AAC files from the trash to the new folder. Burn that folder to CDR and your AAC files live on.

If the AAC has no DRM protection, burning to MP3 is OK; if they are DRM-protected, burn is only for backup, but can't playback on other player, even the CD or DVD player.

There is another way to make it --- use a DRM removal software which can convert music formats.
