Lock the screen in OS 10 from the menubar :: info

Here's a feature that many people have overlooked. The user interface for Keychain Access enjoys several improvements and one that I rely on all the time for my PowerBook is the ability to lock your keychain and most importantly, your screen, directly from the menu bar.

To enable this feature, open Keychain Access and choose "Show Status in Menu Bar" from the View menu.

Yeah, I pointed this out a while ago when explaining the whole .menu fiasco (specifically about 3rd parties not using them).

Alternatively, you can just open or drag this file to the menu bar:

    /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access.app/Contents/Resources/Keychain.menu

Overall, the entire Keychain Access app is a hundred times better in 10.2 than previous versions. It got a major overhaul with Jaguar. The old one reeked of "cheap carbon port" but the new one feels smooth like buttah'.

Actually, While I am at it.

Although not directly related to Keychain, what else can I pop up in the menu bar. It is very handy...

    Currently I know off:

-iChat, Airport + Internet connection time

    -Volume

    -Display

    -keycahin

    -power

    -Clock

    -CPU (not that I use)

The "Screen Effects" system preference can be set to require a password, has 'hot spots', and can be set to time out.

Just another way of doing the same thing, but I find this one both easier and prettier.

Hey, that's really neat! Must try it.

Keychain is a really great bit of software, insofar as it's unobtrusive, works perfectly and can be nigh-on invisible.

Yea...I thought this would be cool for keeping my friends and whoever out of my computer or whatever, then quickly realized that the screen saver does the exact same thing...in fact if you click the cancel button on the "Lock" screen it just puts the Screen Saver up...same exact thing.
