Permission Problems *Please Read*

in macOS edited January 2014
For those of you who don't know, I've been having major issues with permissions on my computer. Seems it started when I added a 120GB IDE Hard Drive in a couple months ago. For some reason or another, I am unable to delete trash except to use terminal commands....then I read this on Apple Care....

<<<<<"Issues with emptying the Trash are much less likely to occur in Mac OS X 10.2 or later, since the Finder empties the Trash as the root user. However, issues may still occur with files on remote volumes for which your local root user has no special privileges.">>>>>

Then I thought to myself....I wonder if I got the drive set up correctly, so that the root user has those "special privileges" like emptying stuff I throw away?

So you all know the basics of what I'm doing... I am using a Beige G3 333 overclocked to 375/83 Bus. I added a Western Digital 120GB 7200rpm drive about 2 months is partitioned into 3 main drive is a 12GB unit partitioned into 2 for X and 9. I have never been able to boot from the new drive...and OS 9 does not recognize it at all...doesn't show in profiler in 9, or on the desktop....they are all HFS+ drives.

ALSO, I cannot boot from a CD when rebooting off of X (10.2.1 by the way). I can only boot from a CD from 9.2.2, and only in an external SCSI CD/CD-R drive.

I would really like to get my HD and permissions issues fixed because they drive me nuts. Also because I am purchasing a Powerlogix g4 550 ZIF and a Radeon 7000 PCI card for it soon, and would like it to just run right for a change. After I'm done there, it is off to CD-R land so that I can possibly find a burner that works with this machine. It is obvious the SCSI burner I have never will ....ooooh....side question....will an internal IDE burner work?

After I get these things straightened out, I plan on "up-ing" the memory some more (I'm at 224mb now).

Also, I have these PCI cards in use....firewire, and USB. I love this machine....but it drives me crazy sometimes. Then I realize that it is now 4 years old, and just smile! Eventually, this machine will be dedicated to my wife, as she is talking about buying me a new Powerbook for Christmas!

Do I have room for one more gripe here? How come I can't save my iPhoto pictures to the 120GB drive and view them like everyone else? Everytime I try to import the photos, it tries to save it to the 12GB drive.

Thanks everyone for your support!

You may not have had the option on to install Mac OS 9 drivers when you formatted the 120 GB, I'm guessing that is the reason OS 9 can't see it.

Sam... I left an answer to your iPhoto question, but it is in this forum and, if I know Brad, it will probably be thrown to the Digital Hub forum...

    Look for it there.
