Now way to revert Quicktime 5 in Jaguar

Posted:

I paid the fee for Quicktime 5 Pro. I installed Jaguar, and it installed Quicktime 6. Apple's method of reverting is apparently not compatible with Jaguar. I now have lost all Quicktime 5 Pro functionality. I could have selected a custom install, but I didn't figure that out until I installed my second copy of Jag on my wife's machine.

I basically paid $30 for nothing (well, 6 months of pro use). Help?

Apple has apparently been listening. They have a QuickTime 5 Reinstaller for OS X <a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120084"; target="_blank">Here.</a>

You could always pirate it... if you're pissed enough, and you think they ripped you off...

Bad luck. You got the short end o' the stick here.

However, considering that QuickTime 6 was a touted feature of Jaguar, it would've been a good idea to confirm that you could downgrade to QT5 before upgrading.

What do you use QT Pro for? The new features in QT6 are pretty compelling.

downgrading to qt5 in jagwire isn't a very good idea.

it's to integrated in the system.

jagwire runs best if you just install it and don't try to hack around.

    you are asking for trouble.

I'd hate to be thought of as one of the moaners but it is pretty disgraceful that I still can't show anything whole screen without QT Pro. Also, it would have been nice to have been told that before the installation began. In fact, now that i'm on a roll, it would have been even better for Apple to have thrown in QT Pro and kept a few more onside in the "is it worth it " row.

QT Pro only unlocks the QT Movie application - it does nothing to the actual QT functionality.

You can easily use full screen QT movies on any third party movie players that use QT.
