I reinstalled 10.2, but decided to ditch 9 (so I did not install it). now I miss 9. has anyone tried to install 9 AFTER installing 10? what are my options?
yes I have. It works just fine. However I only use it for the few remaining apps that need Classic (mostly games). No longer restart under OS 9 (no use for it).
Just use your regular OS 9 install CD. It will install the usual "System Folder" alongside the OS X "System" folder.
As loong as you didn't reformat when you installed 10, you should have no problems. When they reformat, many people tend to forget to check the box that says "Install OS9 Drivers". Without that box, OS9 will probably not even see the drive to install on, let alone boot from it.
If you already had OS9 at some time in the past and haven't reformatted since then, though, you should be good to go.

so i booted into the OS 9 CD, but it says that it cannot install 9 over 10, and it wants me to perform a "clean installation" of 9. is this what I should do? this does not erase the HD? it doesn't indicate that it does.
If i wanted to Re-Install OS 9, all i would have to do is drag System Folder and Applicaions (OS 9) into the trash and then install OS 9 from the OS 9 install CD that came with my PB right?
Yup, that's all you have to do, Paul. The System is entirely contained within the System Folder.
It won't bother Classic because Classic checks for any new OS9 systems each time it loads. The Classic software itself is stored within OSX's System folder where you can't bother it.

Why would you ever want to do such a thing? You have just gotta swear it off like cocaine. Repeat after me, I will NOT install OS 9, I will NEVER need classic, I AM OS X, I LOVE OS X. Got it? Good.
I saw this thread, and wanted to try 9 again... and when i tried to boot into 9... i got the mac... so it is time to reinstall 9.... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

But just the other day I had to do the exact same thing and had great dificulty doing so. All I did in the long run was run my 3 CD's that came with my Ti800 and reinstall the original OSX.1 version and then update it with 10.2 and now am hapilly running OSX.2.2 with OS9 too. MY computer also seems to be running better than it has ever!!!
I have Classic installed on a 500MB Disk Image. This way I don't have to physically install it on the hard drive and if it decides to grenade on me I can just replace it with a fresh copy of the image.
Its easy to to.
Make a disk image big enough to hold Classic and any apps you want on it (I don't use any Classic apps so I keep Classic on a small disk image just in case) with Disk Copy.
Mount it on the Desktop.
Drag the OS 9 System Folder already installed on the hard drive onto the mounted disk image.
Open the Terminal and type:
sudo bless -9 folder
And drag the System Folder from the mounted disk image into the Terminal. This will complete the drive path to the System Fodler in the Terminal
GO back into Terminal and press enter.
Close the Terminal and lauch System Prefs, click on Classic. It chould then see the disk image as containing a valid and bootable system folder. Click on that System Folder as the one to use for Classic. Go ahead and fire it up to make sure everything is OK.
Once its OK, quit Classic and dismount the disk image. Store it somewhere you like (I keep mine in Library)
Ok, now fire up a Classic app and watch the magic!
The Disk image will mount automagically and Classic will fire up. Toss the System Folder from the hard drive into the Trash, you don't need it anymore.
You might want to make a backup of the Classic image just in case.
