On both OW and IE, Shift-command-clicking a link will bring it up in the background. Dunno if Chimera works this way, but it misses a lot of keystroke-click functions already. Been using Chimera for a couple o months now, mostly because of the compatability and speed that OW can't supply. I won't go back to IE with that horribly ugly interface. *shudders*
But if OW shapes up, then perhaps... Until then Chimera'll be my poison of choice.

Has anyone tried Netscape 7.0? I just started using it on my Quicksilver G4 and its great. Smooth new look, popup blocking (although you have to turn off the "allow popups from time-warner sites, initially), and its about as fast as chimera (although sometimes chimera is more satisfying for some reason). Tabbed browsing is great, its got multiple sidebar search engines, text zooming, and better bookmark management than IE, but not chimera. So far, I've found the beta of Opera 6.0 to be the fastest, but I haven't explored all the other features or tried the non-beta. I tried Omniweb briefly, but got distracted by playing with all the others and never got back to it. For my money, Netscape will probably end up as default.

My problem with tabbed browsing is that you can't look at two tabs in one window simultaneously. If it was possible to drag tabs into new windows and combine multiple windows into one window with tabs I might find it more useful. Although this may add a lot of complexity which I know the developers of Chimera want to avoid.
The only thing I don't like about Chimera though is the lack of a separate location bar. I like to have lots of items in my toolbar and there is simply no space for the location bar.
I used OmniWeb for a long time but its lack of standards compliance just got too frustrating.
i have been using Chimera for the last month, and love it. Having said so, i admit it has a lot of room for improvement. Just check my site with Chimera and then with IE. (i have both in their latest versions)

But the <a href="http://www.shrek.com"; target="_blank">www.shrek.com</a> intro (when the filmstrip scrolls from right to left) is rendered very strangely in Chimera (latest build)
There is an option in Mozilla and Netscape 7 to have links not only open under a new tab, but also to have that new tab/link load in the background.
This option is much better than multiple windows in my opinion. I have several sites I go to where I would open several links before moving on. (MacSurfer for example) I have all these links open in tabs behind the frontmost tab containing MacSurfer and then I simple go from tab to tab reading and then closing them.
Now Mozilla allows you to do this with multiple home pages as well. (or so I have read but not tried.)

I just tried it in Chimera and it works.
The only thing I don't like about Chimera though is the lack of a separate location bar. I like to have lots of items in my toolbar and there is simply no space for the location bar.

Look at the first 2 photos. At least in my set up, they look all messed up with Chimera, and not with IE.
If this doesn´t happen to you, please let me know.
Another example: see how each of the browser renders the intro in Shrek´s site (www.shrek.com)
But i still love tab browsing.

I don't know if this would solve your specific problem, but downloading a more recent "nightly" build may have some fixes.
