If you take a look at that, look at the icon, an umbrella on a backup program, like Apples. And I believe that program was made first.

Suspicious, and no im not a troll.

Heh. I'm glad someone else is reading those pages.

I suspect this is a mere coincidence. The app in that image is Time & Chaos, a PIM. The backup tool is not any sort of primary function of the app but is rather akin to when apps like HexEditor automatically create backup files for safety.

    Ye, funny stuff there.

Probably, put I don't see what an umbrella has to do with Backup. Anyway, thats just my twisted head...

Hmmm... I think it's quite obvious: Protection!

... you could use other metaphors like a "save" or a "lock" but these are already reserved for computer tasks like encryption or otherwise access protected files. It's not easy any more to find an adequate icon for an application.

The umbrella protects you from rain, backup protects you from data loss (sorta).

A shield protects you from swords and the like. Virex protects you from viruses (sorta).

Well, that's better than the AppleCare icon in Sherlock; it looks more like the Swiss flag.

True. The swiss airforce uses this (round) flag on it's planes.

Besides: Don't get me wrong, I truly LOVE almost every OS X icon. They are pieces of art.
