What's even more weird is that I also noticed when I was looking at pics was that the 12" Powerbooks were running 10.2.3. It's only the 17" ones with 10.2.4.
I think thats it. I can't seem to find any other reason for it. A bug maybe? Naw. It can't be bluetooth. It can't be the DDR, it's used in PowerMacs. It can't be Airport Extreme, because the 12" can use it, but supposedly doesn't use 10.2.4. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I don't think the light sensing keyboard would have to be integrated with the OS. I think its just independant and doesn't rely on the OS for any direction. Well, maybe if when the keyboard brightened, the screen dimmed to make it easier on the eyes. Now that would be cool. :cool:
1) When you select something, the icon doesn't highlight. This happens to me a lot on the desktop and sometimes in a folder. It was in 10.2.2, and is still in 10.2.3. I saw someone else here mention this too. Very annoying.
2) Whenever I connect to a server, AFP or SMB, sooner or later Jaguar hard crashes. Not even a kernel panic, it just freezes. Requires hard restart. Last time it must've screwed up the file system too, it needed to reboot, run fsck, fix something, and reboot. Why oh why is networking so hard? Fortunately I don't need it for my job, just every now and then when I decide to scout a college LAN for warez and music...errr, education material.
Other than that 10.2.3 is solid. If I can love it on my iBook 500 I can't wait to love it even more on soon to be my Mini PBG4.

The screen apparently does dim when the backlight comes on.
That's not love, that's a dozen-odd heartbroken engineers who showered the thing with roses and marriage proposals.
What I'm curious about is why that picture looks like it was taken from a CRT monitor.... Apple doesn't even make them anymore-- can anyone verify this picture as real???

Hummm... this image is curved a lot. And look at the shadow. It's darker/lighter in some area, like thinner at buttom. I don't know, but I have some doubs.
It's called barrel distortion, folks. Yeesh. Pretty much any consumer quality digital or film camera uses lenses that show pincushionining at full telephoto and barrel distortion at full wideangle.
As for drop off, consumer cams also suffer from this. Even the very expensive consumer/prosumer digitals show noticeable drop-off.

If I remember the keynote correctly, Steve said something about software when mentioning the backlight. I'd says it's this and/or FW800.

Looks like 10.2.4 is in pretty early stages since they haven't even bothered to synce the kernel version number to 6.4.
