Okay I've finally updated to Jaguar. What's this network initialization thing everytime I boot up. It takes forever! I'm not on any network. Is there a way to bypass or remove this feature?

Just a thought but you might want to check the 'open directory' setup to see if you are tring to contact/connect with a netinfo server... This will slow things down QUITE a bit if you have it activated when no 'network' netinfo server exists.
The same problem occured to me recently despite having not changed anything. It seems my ISP had a server/service failure and on booting up the machine Jaguar could detect the cable modem was still connected but the DHCP server wasn't issuing an IP address. After a long delay Jaguar self assigned an IP address (which didn't work) and carried on. Perhaps you need to unplug any cable modem or router etc you aren't currently using.
Thanks. I am connected to a cable modem and will see if disconnecting will help. Although I'd hate to have to do this everytime I boot up. I guess that's why many just leave their machine on all the time.
I have DHCP on, even though I do not get an IP from a DHCP server because otherwise Rendezvous does not work over my network (do not ask me why, just doesn't)
So, I marrily use it, and wait when I restart, no bigge, however, nope!

Your cable modem is having trouble getting an IP address that's all. If the network is working properly it works in a matter of a second or two but if you have a problem it waits for it to time out.
