i called apple a minute ago asking where my snow leopard is because i had ordered it before the deadline on wednesday. the guy told me so many people ordered it that mine didn't process until after the deadline.
I ordered 10.6 on the 24th and was told I would receive it on the 28th.
Then I got an email stating that it would ship by the 28th
As of this morning it showed that it still hadn't shipped.
When I called a Customer rep, who must have been in their texas support center, stated that the order was on a pallet ready to be shipped. When I pointed out that having it ready to ship on the 28th did not meet the criteria of shipping it BY the 28th he choose to argue the point, So like Barney Frank and not wishing to argue with a dining room table I hung up.
I called back to cancell the order and a different rep told me that I was to receive my order either today (28th) or Saturday (29th) I said if that was true fine but if I did not receive it I would call over the weekend to cancell my order. Hestated that was ok I could do that
Next I received an email stating my order had been mailed on the 27th and that I would receive it on Sept 1. This was not acceptable so for a third time I called and was told that sorry they had my money and they weren't giving it back no matter how misl;eading and false their actions had been.
Then they offered an insulting pittance of a coupon that would have required me to spend even more money with an organization that within 8 hours had given me 3 differnet stories on when my software was shipped. Three different stories of when I was to receive it and two different stories on whether I could cancell my order.
This createsan either/or situation.
Either
the hardware and software that Apple rep's are using are so buggy that tracking a single order is beyond its capabilities
Or
The Apple reps are told to be as misleading, confusing and to spread false information.
So the question Whisc is it? is Ineptitude or Dishonesty.

Ordered mine on monday- shipped on thursday arrived saturday installed today-Apple kept me informed all along the way by email - what could be simpler! - I would have been happy to wait 2 weeks for the disc- it's not a matter of life or death,
In answer to your final question - i guess the answer is Impatience!

The delivery date does not bother me. Things happen. But the corporate policy of misdirection, false statements and inability to track what was going on is what bothers me.
To review after being told it would ship BY the 28th and upon checking Friday morning and seeing that according to the Apple order tracking page that it had not shipped and then being treated as a fool by an agent who tried to sell me a bill of goods that the order was ready to be shipped on the 28th and that met the standard of shipping by the 28th. Then another agent telling me that it had shipped and I was scheduled to receive it on the 28th or 29th and that if not there would be no problem with returning it. Then receiving an email notice saying it had shipped on the 27th and to expect delivery sometime next week after which a 3rd agent contradicted the 2nd agent and stated that I could not cancel the order.
To top off this tale misinformation, obstructionism and general deceit I recieved a email "Apple Store Shipping Notice" on the 29th stating it had shipped on the 27th.
Again one has to ask is this a matteer of willful deceit, incompetence or are Apple's software/hardware systems so buggy the cannot track a simple order.
It isn't the delay that I take umbrage at it is the repeated falsehoods, be they from a technical failure or corporate policy is irrelevent. That coupled with Apple's total unwillingness to take responsibility for their corporate failures.
An added insult was everytime I called while I was on hokd a recorded message kept telling me that all orders placed before the 26th, I ordered on the 24th, were on schedule to be delivered on the 28th.
This is why I didn't order online. It is much easier to just go to the store and have fun looking around in the process.
That raises another issue.
I ordered online while on the phone with an Apple Rep.
At that time I asked whether I could go to the nearest Apple Store ( approx an hours drive ) and get my $9.95 upgrade and what documentation I would need. She told me that I could but I considered the end of summer traffic and decided against that ( big mistake - or maybe not)
On my 2nd call to Apple when I said I would rather go to the store again I was told that was an option but since I was PROMISED delivery on Friday or Saturday I decided to defer it since I was told that it would arrive on Saturday.
On my 3rd call to Apple I was told, in direct contradiction to what the agent who helped with the order and the agent on the 2nd call had told me, that the $9.95 upgrade was NOT available in the store and again in direct contradiction of what the agent on the 2nd call had told me Apple would not allow me to cancell my order.
To make myself clear If Apple had honestly and openly related the truth to me I would have been fine. But the constant changing of the story, contradictions among its own personel, lack of communications- i.e. no information on the order until AFTER I called on the 28th with Shipping notice sent out on the 29th, and repeated falsehoods - i.e. taped message that all orders placed before the 26th would be delivered on the 28th without qualification coupled with Apple's blind intransgent refusal to accept any responsibility for its obvious failures is what has infuriated me. getting the update a few days late would is a minor disappointment have Apple blow smke at me and treat me as a fool is unacceptable.

You know, I can't be sure but it sounds like there was confusion on Apple reps' part on the difference between the normal retail version of SL and the Up-to-Date one. I also ordered the UTD version (on line), and it sure sounds like the retail version was prioritized over UTD.
That is, all of the marketing hoo-ha about getting it ON the 28th seemed to apply only to retail, and that's what the reps were versed in.
My UTD version shipped on the 28th, and it said to expect delivery by Sept. 2. I'm hoping that it'll be waiting in my mailbox when I get home however. USPS can't be *that* slow!

I agree with you but they were tracking my order #so there was no excuse forr getting 3 different stories in an 8 hour period plus the arrogance that the final aApple rep exuded .
