Hey all... Anyone know where the icons live for mounted volumes?
More importantly, is it possible to alter the icons for different drives? I'd like to customize each one so that I can easilly tell which volume is which (as they all have the same name!)
Thanks!

cant help ya with q1 but in regards to the other question, yes, no probs. You can put custom icons on everything.. from a smart card, usb keydrive, separate partitions, etc.
good sites for icons:
<a href="http://www.xicons.com" target="_blank">www.xicons.com</a>
<a href="http://www.resexcellence.com" target="_blank">www.resexcellence.com</a>
<a href="http://www.iconfactory.com" target="_blank">www.iconfactory.com</a>
(tons more, but those are my fav)

Is it like the old cmd-i / copy & paste method from older MacOS, or can I acutally alter the .ico file itself?

Both. Use an app like iconographer or iconmachine to edit .icn-files. Or you could just get info and copy/paste any icon onto your drive.
drag and drop icons into even finder, trash, and system. smooth interface and painless UI mods
<strong>Can I just move and rename them to the System Folder? Anyone have an idea?</strong><hr></blockquote>
That's what Candybar does for you. Download it and enjoy.
A lot safer than mucking around in the system folder by yourself.
