OSX Fonts

I figure this has been asked before yet I have literally been out of it and havn't learned much about OSX.

I have been trynna get the fonts to work. What do I do when OSX tells me "fonts folder cannot be modified"

I am using the .ttf files that I am supposed to.

Plus where do you guys find any good free fonts? I need some for a small web project I just started.

There are actualy several font folders in OS X. First, the fonts that are necessary for the system to work are stored in the System folder. No user can modify the System folder because it holds all the stuff that the OS absolutely needs in order to run. It's more the equivalent of the System suitcase in OS 9. The fonts that every user can use are stored in the Library folder in your computer's hard drive. You have to have administrator permissions to modify this folder. By default, the first person to set up the computer has these permissions. Finally, you have a personal Fonts folder located the Library folder inside your Home folder. You of course have complete control over what goes in and out of this folder.

As for godfree fonts, I've yet to find any really good ones myself. Maybe someone else could share in a secret stash of the stuff.

a lot of people like pixel fonts for web projects, googling you find many sites with them.

As far as free fonts, try <a href="http://www.1001freefonts.com"; target="_blank">www.1001freefonts.com</a>.

I use a lot from the nice people at <a href="http://www.chank.com/freefonts.php"; target="_blank">Chank Fonts</a>: good for banners, titles and icons, less so for actual typesetting.
