We have a filter now and more aggressive signup checks.
You can expect some spam to still get through as the filter has to be updated to catch new ones. It took a couple of months to get the filter in place due to a plugin issue.
The issue is certainly much better now and the spam that does get through shouldn't be so obtrusive. It will mostly be the kind that is hard for filters to pick up on.
