And more importantly, why does only one of my SL Macs have it? The same was so for Leopard, one of the Macs (same one) didn't have this. I find it tremendously useful, but cannot locate the way to activate it on the other Mac's Finder. Hulp!?

It's the path bar. In the View menu, choose "Show Path Bar".

For the life of me I cannot think why this is optional, is should be there as standard. It's very useful to glance at. You can even drag folders onto it.
